STAR TREK lets us dream of a future without racism, bigotry, greed, hatred, poverty, disease or despair...
It lets us dream of a future where it doesn't matter what you look like, who you love, or what your capabilities are. Where everyone can live long and prosper.
Star Trek is my source for hope and optimism. It’s what keeps me trying to work hard and trying to be a good person. (Whether I achieve that or not is probably up for debate.) I’m not religious, but I don’t harbor any ill will towards anyone who is as long as they use those beliefs responsibly. For me, Star Trek fills the gap I have in that regard, and it just works for me.
I want to be clear, it’s Star Trek’s optimistic message of the future that drives me. I’m not talking about specific details regarding the individual episodes and movies. Not everyone likes everything produced under the IP.
(Although I *personally* haven’t seen a Star Trek I didn’t like!) Sometimes, the writers had to tell a story that would entertain and grab eyeballs rather than pushing forward its primary message. To me, that doesn’t obscure the overall message.
One day, if we put our heads together, if enough people care, we can solve all the insurmountable problems we have today. And if we don’t, we probably won’t be around to mope about it anyway! Live long and prosper my friends.
