Character Description
Somnus is a 23ft long Dragon.
Personality
Somnus is an inquisitive, curious creature. He loves asking questions that prompt long winded responses and listening intently. Though, he is very oblivious in certain regards. He doesn't understand hyperbole or sarcasm, being a very literal individual. He was raised by nobles in a castle, so he has a very haughty, proper way of talking but he inherited his Lord's kindness and rebelliousness. Somnus is fiercely loyal, standing up for those he deems worthy and doing his best to abide by their wishes.
Likes/Dislikes
Somnus likes relaxing, exploring, using magic to observe the dreams of strangers, learning new things no matter how trivial, bonding with his packmates and studying the magical tome his Lord left him. Somnus dislikes violence, authority, being told what to do, seafood.
Background/History
Somnus started out as nothing more than a congealed mass of magical energy, called Mana. He was not exceptional in any way, however a lonely young human Prince claimed Somnus and kept him close for his entire life. The Prince became a King, and not a very good one at that. He was beloved by his people, but he often forwent his duties as a King to adventure about the world and using his status to collect a vast amount of knowledge about his world. The King left his court to rule in his stead. He became a great Sage, commanding very powerful magic.

In his old age, the King had settled down and unwillingly preformed his duties. He had fallen ill, and his time was running short. He hadn't sired any children, choosing adventure over romance. There needed to be an heir to the throne, so The King was presented with three of his nephews. The King loathed all three of them, the Nephews all pompous little sycophants whom in his eyes would make terrible kings, not that he was a good one himself. So, he ordered that he be left undisturbed in his tower for a month.

He sealed it off to be sure and got to work. He took the spirit that he had kept by his side for his entire life and began to pour his magic into it. After a week, the little wispy Spirit had turned into a great Dragon. In this state, Somnus was like a newborn. He cried, confused and scared as he had just been given a form. The King raised him, granted him a name and three gifts. The Swordscepter Caladbolg and The magical Starsea Cloak, two magical artifacts that were passed down through the Royal Family as symbols of the King. The third was his magical tome, containing all the knowledge The King had collected throughout his years.

Exactly a month after The King sealed the tower, it opened. The Royal Court entered to find Somnus watching over the body of The King. At this point, Somnus was capable of rudimentary speech, though his infantile babbling was unable to calm the Court as they feared that he had slayed The King. A brave knight entered and found a letter addressed to the Court, instructions that Somnus was the heir to the throne they had been seeking. The Court reluctantly raised the Dragon, bound by their traditions and honors to the word of The King. His very existence caused a huge division in The Court. He was given an education and was lovingly cared for by his supporters, and was set up for failure and even had assassination attempts by his detractors. When he became an adult, he had learned about The King he had come to know as his father.

He learned of all the adventures his father had gone on, planting the seed of curiosity in the Dragon. It would blossom when he learned to harness the power of the artifacts left to him, able to peruse and take the dreams of others and to conceal himself with the magic of the Starsea Mantle. He absconded from the castle to follow in his fathers footsteps. He spent many years adventuring, avoiding agents from The Court aiming to reclaim both him and the artifacts. He knew what he was doing was selfish, but he simply couldn't help it. With every dream he he claimed and every land he visited his curiosity was only further stoked. In his travels, he happened upon a strange metal vessel. He boarded it, concealed himself and was whisked away to the stars. The Dragon had been unknowingly kidnapped by the ADF Duskstar crew. The Dragon didn't understand their language, but used his dream manipulation power to learn everything about them. His curiosity was being sated, but not his appetite. He grew weak as he neglected his body hiding from the crew of the ship, his strength waning and failing to remove the memory of himself from their dreams. It wasn't long before he was discovered, the Dragon lashing out against the crew. He lost the ensuing battle due to being malnourished. Kaali and Cipher took pity on him, opting to keep him for study. Somnus endeared himself to the crew and is now a valued member of the Khalan pack.
Relatives/Family
Somnus thinks highly of His Lord and Majesty Lagorell Cyel Aurion. Doubly so, as even though he was created through magical means, Somnus still considers him his Father.

Cipher is Somnus' new Lord, attributing the sparing of his life to him directly. Somnus will do anything for him.

Somnus thinks highly of Kaali, the mate of his new Lord holding the same authority over him.

Somnus is interested in Byrnhildr, fascinated by his biology and patiently tries to understand his humor.

Somnus initially did not like Eryll at all. Eryll being contracted to retrieve him by The Court caused them to fight a lot. But, when Eryll joined them aboard the Duskstar, he started to warm up to her despite their spotty past.
World/Setting
In the world of Renaloan, magic is plentiful. It manifests as an ethereal substance called Mana. Mana is in all things. Though, only certain creatures can harness it naturally. Elves can use magic, humans cannot. If a human mates with an elf, their Half Elf offspring can use magic, though they are seen as abominations by certain factions.

The Spirits of Renloan are not spirits of any previously living thing. They are simply congealed masses of Mana. Spirits can be attuned to many different elements, Earthly elements such as Fire or Water or more unusual elements such as Gravity or Holy. They do not possess consciousness, however they can have memories. The memories they retain are random and limited. It could be a few sounds, or even showing a shimmery moment in time if the conditions are right.
Body
Somnus has a long, slender body. His mane is a lighter blue in the front, that darkens towards the back of his head, with a black highlights all about. He wears two braids on either side of his head. HIs fur is primarily grey, with soft green fur covering his back, adorned with dark blue stripes. His front feet are cat-like paws, and his back legs are bird like. The fur on his back legs grows long enough to also be braided. He has a long, whip-like tail. it is tipped with a dark blue tuft, the very end featuring a black point.
Clothing
Somnus is never without his magical cloak, the Starsea Mantle. It is a cape that always displays a magical, starry sky. It features a custom made Ruff, which grants its own magical protections separate from the Starsea Mantle.

A strip of cloth is always wrapped around his right horn. It is nothing more than simple dyed cotton fabric. It was a part of Lord Lagorell's slumber robes, Somnus' horn tearing the strip from the robes upon his creation. As Somnus uses magic to perpetually hover about, the strip seems to always be gently blowing in a breeze...
Accessories
Somnus can magically summon The Caladbolg, a sword formed of Crystalized Magicite. As such, it acts as a supremely powerful magic catalyst, while itself being nigh indestructible, so long as Mana flows through it. It was created by an ancient King of Spirits for a vengeful Half Elf who sought to slay humans. It features an unusual shape, and proves to be unwieldy as a result. It had no tang, and the cutting edge over every side. Its obtuse design is intentional, The King of Spirits despising humans, but adoring elves. He created the powerful weapon for Half Elf, aiming to both help and hinder him due to his nature. The blade originally did not have a handle, and it was difficult to fit one due to the shape. The Half Elf clasped the sword between his hands and waved it about in a ridiculous fashion, but it's sheer power was more than enough to make up for its unwieldy nature. The Caladbolg became lost after some time, resting at the bottom of a gorge for centuries. The root of a tree curled around the sword, creating a grip for the blade. It was discovered by a Hero who would use it's power become the First Renloanian King.

Somnus also possesses Lord Lagorell's Adventure Log. It is said to be a complete encyclopedia of the entire world, Renloan only being a country on a vast planet. It seems to be rather small for such a thing, but the pages contents magically alter through use of the catalogue on the inside of the front cover. If no topic has been selected, it can also be opened to a random page and display random information, Lord Lagorell enchanting it this way simply for fun. It has many other charms and enchantments to increase its durability. Despite all this, the book itself does not amplify magic in any way.
