Leo sits outside his house on the stone steps, that led up to the front door. He is playing a video game on his game boy. The wolf cub is clad in a white t-shirt with a black paw print design in centre, with black shorts and black and white trainers on his feet. For March the weather is now quite warm, and the days have longer daylight hours now. In a few weeks’ time, Leo would be 12 years old.

Leo has completed all the chores that Kate has given him to do, now he is just killing the time with a game of Links Awakening (Link happens to be a wolf in this world). At 4pm Leo would be meeting a friend of his in the town. The little wolf has almost completed a boss on the game, when he hears footsteps approach him. Leo glances up to see, Charlie briskly walking towards him. The Doberman is wearing his usual attire of a black leather jacket, a white t-shirt, dark blue jeans and brown leather boots as footwear. He is also smoking joint, that gives off a strong smell of weed.
“I hope he doesn’t start hitting me like he did last time” Leo thinks to himself before he focuses back on the screen of the game boy.
“Hey bitch boy! Your mum home?” the Doberman demands at him.
“Rude git! Why should I tell him? Of course, mother will be in the house. She hardly ever goes out” Leo thinks to himself.

Not answering Charlie’s question, pisses the Doberman off. He snatches the portable game console out of Leo’s hands, before he presses the start button on the Game Boy, which pauses the game.
“Lets try this again shall we!” Charlie growls at Leo. “I said is your mum home?”
“Yes Mr Jones” Leo says to Charlie politely.
“Now that’s better” he tells Leo. “I have some medicine for your mother.”
“Oh god! By medicine he means drugs” the little wolf thinks to himself.
Then without a warning Charlie hurls the Game Boy at the ground. The console lands on a paving stone with a loud smack.  Leo mouth hangs open in shock, having witnessed the destruction of his prized possession.
“Game over bitch boy” the Doberman chuckles before he makes his way inside the house.
“Hey Kate! I’ve got the stuff you wanted” Leo hears him holler from instead the house.
Leo scoops up his game console before he walks quickly away from the house. He examines the game console to find that to his dismay, the screen is cracked and broken.
“That fucking twat!” Leo mutters as tears of anger splash down his cheeks. “My dad brought that for me. One of these days, I hope Charlie gets stabbed or put in prison!”

                                                       *******

“I hope my little brother will show up soon” a young gorilla says to himself as he stands underneath a bus stop. The gorilla’s name is Sid and he is 14 years old. Like most silverback gorillas Sid has jet black fur, with dark grey skin and his eyes are dark brown. The ape is wearing a red hoodie, dark blue jeans, and green trainers (the American’s call them sneakers.)
A few minutes pass before Sid spots Leo in the distance, so he begins to wave to his wolf friend. Leo smiles as he sees his pal, who is just like a big brother to him, despite being a completely different species to himself.
Leo has known the gorilla lad for month now. Leo had first met Sid in the park by chance. Leo had been sitting on a bench reading a manga book, when then the ape had approached him and casually commented on how great of a series “The Monkey Kid” was. Explaining to Leo, how Monkey Kid was one of his favourite manga series of all time. Leo had responded by asking Sid if he knew any other good manga series. That was how they’d got talking and getting to know each other.

However, Leo had yet to tell Sid about his abusive family back at his home. He didn’t feel as though he had it in himself, to tell anyone about the abuse. Deep down inside Leo was scared that no one would believe him or do anything about it. Charlie and Kate would beat him senseless if he reported them.
“Hey Sid, how are you dude?” Leo asks the gorilla.
“Oh, I’m good brother” the ape replies. “You up for getting a bite to eat at my uncle’s diner?”
“Oh yeah!” Leo said as his stomach gave out a loud rumble. He hadn’t eaten anything all day.
So, the two young mammals set off down the street on their way to the diner.
“Been up to much Sid?” Leo asks the gorilla casually as they walk.
“Oh plenty, little buddy” the gorilla says. “Mountains of homework, GCSE practice exams, video games to play, plenty of new comics to read.”
“Sounds great!”
“What about yourself Leonardo? Much been occurring in your life?”
“Oh, not much Sid. Not much” the wolf cub replies. “Just things I got to do for secondary school.”
“You look kinda glum mate. There anything bothering you?” the gorilla questions him.
Leo thinks carefully for a moment before he says, “Well….. This happened.”
Leo takes out the broken game boy from his pocket and presents it to Sid.
“Oh damn” Sid gasps. “I’m sorry to see that mate. How did that happen?”
“I dropped it on the pavement” Leo replies. He doesn’t have the courage to tell Sid what really happened.
The ape proceeds to examine the portable game system before he says “Perhaps this Game Boy needs a new screen? The red power light still works on the console. If you let me take it home, then perhaps my dad could fix it?”

Leo thinks for a moment before he says “Sure thing Sid. You can hold onto it for a while.”
“I’ll take good care of it, for you Kid” the ape informs him as he places the console in his backpack.
Besides Charlie could further damage the game boy again if he got his dirty paws on it, for a second time. Soon the two young mammals reach a 1950s style diner. They enter the building where they are greeted by a tall, stocky middle-aged Gorilla. The male ape has jet black fur with streaks of grey in it. He is clad in a white t-shirt, jeans and a chef’s apron.
“How have you been Sidney?” the gorilla asks him warmly.
“I’ve been A-Okay, Uncle George” the young gorilla replies with a smile.
“Ah, I see that you’ve brought a friend along” George says as his gaze falls upon the young wolf. “Say kid, you been to this place before?”

“Oh no, I’ve never been in this place before, sir” Leo said politely.
“Well kido, I’m sure you’ll like it here. Especially if you want to go back the nineteen fifties. Back when times were simple. Now you boys choose your table and my Mrs will take your orders for ya.”
Leo follows Sid to a nearby table before both lads settle themselves down. A catchy soul song blears out from juke box several meters aways from them.
“This place has great atmosphere” Leo tells his gorilla friend. “That song by Sam Cooke, “Twisting the Night Away” is so damn catchy.”
“I know right! Sam Cooke is one of my favourite artists of all time. He is up there in my top five musicians with Percy Sledge and Elvis.”
Moments later the duo are approached by a plump female orangutan with fiery orange fur, clad in a pink 1950s style waitresses uniform. The orangutan places a jug on iced water onto the table, along with a few glasses.
“Hello boys. What would you like to order?” she asks them cheerfully.
“The Chicken noodles please” the gorilla says almost instantly. “I’d also like those nachos with the guacamole.”
“Sure, thing Sidney” the orangutan says as she writes the orders down on a notepad, before she turns her attention to Leo.

“What would you like to order love?” the ape asks him.
“Order anything you want Leo. It’ll pay for it” Sid informs him.
Leo thinks carefully for several moments before he Says, “I’d like a nice beef burger, please. Cooked so it’s well done.”
“Good choice kid. We do excellent burgers hear. Your food should be about 20 minutes until its ready” the ape tells them, before she vanishes.

“Thanks for paying for mine Sid. I highly apricate this. I hope that burger I want, doesn’t burn a hole in your pockets.”
“It’s fine dude. I can afford it alright. Besides I do chores for my uncle as his diner always need cleaning. You know, washing the windows, cleaning the floor. In return for my handy work, he lets me order food on the house” the young gorilla explains to his wolf friend.
“Sounds like a fair deal that” Leo says as he pours himself out water from the jug, into his glass.

20 minutes later, the orangutang returned to their table carrying a tray with their orders on it.
“Here you go boys. You enjoy!” she announces as she places the food on the table.
“Thanks aunt Sonia” Sid tells her politely. Sonia’s married to his uncle George, which makes her Sid’s aunt.
“Thank you miss” Leo says to the female ape.
“You boys are welcome. If you need anything, then let me know” Sonia informs them, before she goes off to tend to a penguin couple who sit at a neighbouring table.
The two hungry young mammals begin to tuck into their food. Leo takes a bite out of his hand burger. It tastes wonderful. One of the nicest burgers that he has eaten in his life. Sid allows Leo to have some of his nachos, that tasted even nicer once dipped in the guacamole.
“This is great food” the little wolf says he takes another bite out of his burger. “Thanks for paying for mine. I owe you one.”
“Your welcome buddy” Sid replies. “Don’t worry about paying me back. You’re worth a million to me friend.”
“I am?”
“Of course, you are. Y’see I don’t have many friends at secondary school. It’s a place full of assholes” the gorilla explains to him. “I can’t wait to start college.”
“Oh, same with me. There are times where I kinda prefer my own company” Leo said.
The little wolf then said “Do you get picked on Sid?”

The gorilla nodded his head.
“I can relate Sid. I can relate” Leo tells him. Two hairless Sphynx cat brothers, named Daniel and Simon, often harassed him around school. Not to mention his mother and her boyfriend who bullied him around, back at home.
“You know, long story this but in short, I use to be friends with a bull and two weasels. Those three started off alright. Unfortunately, as time went on, they turned out to be total dickheads” the gorilla explains to Leo. “They where just using me to get free food and money out of me. They also took the piss out of me behind my back and hid behind the excuses that they were just joking.”

The ape lets out a sad sigh.
“Unfortunately, some mammals just aren’t worth being around and associating with. Your just wasting your time. Best move on.”
“I get you Sid.” Leo tells him.
They finished their meal in silence. Happy with each other’s company. Once their food has gone down, Sid takes Leo down the street to an arcade, where they put their coins to use by playing arcade games such as frogger, dragons lair and space invaders. Once they run out of coins, Sid shows Leo a new manga book he has recently brought, called the drifting classroom. It’s a pure horror story about a Japanese grade school that is magically transported to a desert waste land, leaving the students to fend for themselves. Leo finds this manga rather unique as it’s like no other manga he has read before.

Then they chilled at the park, where they sit on a bench and watch the sun go down. As the fiery orange sky turns to dark blue, neither one of the boys say anything. They enjoy each other’s company and words aren’t needed.
“Well, I best be heading off little brother” the ape tells the wolf cub as he gets up from the bench. “I’m walking back to my house.”
“Ah, then in that case, I best head back home myself” Leo said as he got off from the bench. The duo exits the park and walk along the pavement, until Leo reaches his bus stop.
“I’ll see you later Leo” the ape says to the little wolf. “One of these days I’m going to have to invite you over to my house.”
“I’d really like that, Sid” Leo finds himself saying before he gives his friend a quick hug goodbye.
“Sid’s a cool guy. Maybe one day I can tell him about what is going on at home” Leo thinks to himself. “When I feel up to it of course.”
Leo watches the gorilla vanish into the distance as he walks briskly down the pavement. Minutes later a bus arrives at the bus stop and Leo boards it.

                                               **********
When Leo is approaching his house, it’s already dark and the wolf makes the time out to be eight pm.
“I sure hope that asshole Charlie, isn’t here” Leo thinks to himself as he reaches the front door of his house. “Or mum has a go at me, like she often dose.”
As his paw reaches out for the door handle (the front door was usually left unlocked, due to Kate’s carelessness), the door is flung open, revealing Kate. The raven furred she wolf stands before Leo, with a scowl plastered on her muzzle and a joint in her hand. Kate looks awful. Her eyes are pink and watery. The grey dress she wears is stained. Her fur is matted, and she stinks of weed.
“Where the hell have you been?” Kate crossly hisses at him. “You’ve been away for hours!”

Leo feels his blood turns to ice as the she-wolf glares back at him. He honestly had no idea that Kate would be cross with him for going out, without telling her. Most of the time Kate barely paid attention to Leo, unless she was angry with him, or she wanted him to do work for her.
“I’m sorry mother. I was at the park” Leo explains to her politely.
Suddenly Kate becomes livid. Her eye narrow and she begins to snarl. It’s almost as if Leo has just insulted her. Without a warning, Kate grabs Leo by the scuff of his neck before she roughly pulls him inside the house. She slams the door shut hard. Then she screeches at Leo at the top of her lungs,
“YOU FUCKING IDIOT! YOUR MEANT TO TELL ME BEFORE YOU GO OUT! NOT AFTERWARDS! GO TO YOUR ROOM!”

Kate is breathing heavily in a rather disturbing manner now.
Leo dose not wait be asked twice, he kicks off his footwear and hastily makes his way to his bedroom. The little wolf his shaking with fear now. He can only pray that Kate won’t punish him by hitting him or worse having him banished down to that god-awful basement.
Then minutes later, Kate enters his bedroom, a leather belt in her hand. Leo knows what Kate is planning to do. She was going to use the belt on him. She had threatened him a few days ago, saying that she’d hit him with her belt if he didn’t tidy the kitchen enough.
“Get against the wall son” the raven furred she wolf demands at him in an icy voice. “It’s the only way you’ll learn. Your father never learned.”
At first, Leo almost dose what Kate orders him to do, since he is used to taking orders from her without question. Though mainly out of fear.

However, there is part of Leo, who wants to run for the hills because getting smacked by that belt would be extremely painful. Then the wolf cub recalls what Sid told him a few hours ago…
“Some mammals just aren’t worth being around and associating with. Your just wasting your time. Best move on” the gorillas’ words eco though Leo’s head.

Without a second Leo makes a break for his bedroom door, but Kate stops him by clamping her paw down on his left shoulder blade. Now she knows what he is up to.
“You’re not thinking of running away now are you? You’d have nowhere to go and you wouldn’t like it at all in an orphanage” Kate taunts him. “No one would want to adopt you! Your not going to find anyone out there who loves you the same way as I do.”
For a moment, the word of “orphanage” makes Leo’s feel sick with fear. Then the little wolf reminds himself of how awful living conditions are and how he cannot continue being a slave to his mother and her boyfriend.
“Your so full of shit! You don’t love me at all!” Leo finds himself shouting back at Kate in a sudden rush of anger.
“I’d happily live out on the streets than in this shit hole with you!”
Kate proceeds to tremble with rage, unable to process what her son has just told her. Leo free’s his should from Kate’s grasp.
“I’ve had enough of your crap and I’m leaving!” he tells her firmly before he turns his back on Kate and makes his way towards the door. His heart is beating so hard it feels like it’ll burst. He is ready to run for his life. Then it happens….

The metal belt buckle smashes down hard on Leo’s left shoulder, causing the kid to cry out in pain. Blood gushes down Leo’s left arm and he proceeds to feel a strong stinging sensation.
Kate clamps her paw down hard on her son’s right shoulder. The female wolf looks insane. Her eyes are bulging and she has a disturbing looking grin on her muzzle.
“You don’t get it, do you boy?! I own you! You belong to me!” Kate hisses at him like a serpent. “The moment you left my womb you belonged to me! Your my property! Now Keep still! I haven’t finished punishing you yet! You will see…” she adds in a creepy sounding voice.

Leo is now in panic mode. He has to get away from Kate’s clutches, otherwise she could seriously injure him. He’d have to fight back and defend himself before she could inflict any further damage on him. But how? Kate was stronger than him. He needed a weapon to fight back and to defend himself with.
Then an idea struck him. He was a wolf after all.
Using all the strength he had, Leo broke free from Kate’s grasp before he scratched her hard in the face with his claw like nails. His razor-sharp claws, cut into Kate’s left eye, causing Kate to let out a blood curdling scream. She falls to the ground howling in agony as she clutches her bloody face.
Leo bolts out of his bedroom, along the landing and down the stairs. He makes it to the front door when a firm paw roughly grabs his left arm.
“Where do you think your going, bitch boy?” an angry voice hisses at him.
It was Charlie!

Unknown to Leo, the Doberman had been in the living room the whole time, sniffing cocaine. Hearing Kate’s screams of agony had brought him to his senses.
The Doberman glares at Leo, ready to bash his head in. Charlie then lifts Leo up by the scruff of his neck, so the kid is at his height.
“What have you done to my mate” Charlie demands at Leo in an icy voice.  “What have you d-“
Charlie lets out a loud gasp as Leo sinks his teeth into the side of his neck. Soon Leo can taste the dog’s blood but at the same time he feels Charlie’s grip on his arm loosen. Then Leo breaks away from Charlie and shoots out of the house on all fours, akin to how a feral wolf would run.
Leo runs for his life, not daring to look back. Now he cannot return home because he is sure that Charlie and Kate will likely kill him, the first chance they get.

                                                         *********
Twenty minutes later……
Leo ducks down an alleyway, before he collapses against the brick wall. His lungs feel like they will burst from his marathon, but at least he is away from those two psychotic canines.
Leo spends several minutes breathing heavy, trying to catch his breath. The gash on his shoulder still stings and is bleeding heavily. The little wolf prays his wound won’t become infected.
“I need to find an adult and tell them about what happened. Hopefully they will get the police involved” Leo says to himself. “So, what if I end up in an orphanage? That will be the least of my worries.”
Several more minutes pass before Leo decides to venture out from his hiding place and find help. Then the most frighting experience in Leo’s life occurred…..

From out of nowhere, Charlie appeared! The Doberman had been able to find Leo, due to getting his sent. Before Leo can run, Charlie knocks him to the ground, where the wolf cub lands on a pile of plastic bin bags.
Charlie looks insane as he towers over Leo. His neck and his t-shirt is covered in his own blood. He is breathing heavily. His eyes are narrowed, and his teeth are bared into a snarl. Then Charlie pulls a knife out from his jacket pocket, grabs Leo’s right foot before placing the sharp blade of the knife against the wolfs big toe.
“Let’s see you run away without your toes, you little bitch!” Charlie announces as a crazed grin forms on his muzzle.

Leo lets cries out in pain and terror as the Doberman proceeds scratch his foot with the blade, causing it to bleed out.
“Soon you won’t have any toes left, bitch boy!” the Doberman jeers at him. “Then once all your toes are gone, I’ll cut your fingers off next! Then I’ll cut your dick off!”
Leo closes his eyes tightly and braces himself for pain as he feels the knife slowly being pressed against his toe. Then moments later he hears an angry female voice hiss “If you cut the boy, then I will kill you!”
Leo opens his eyes to see a tall female lion, standing behind Charlie (who looks livid) with her paw gripping the canine’s jacket collar. Her other paw is clenched into a fist ready to punch Charlie.
The lioness had snuck up on Charlie, whilst he had his back turned.
“I sure hope that she can protect me from that psychopath!” Leo thinks to himself.
Snarling the Doberman draws his knife away from Leo’s foot and the lioness proceeds to roughly drag him away from Leo by his jacket collar.

Once they are several meters away from the wolf cub, the female lion says “You drop that knife and get out of here! I’m calling the police! If you don’t leave now, then I’ll beat the shit out of you!”
“Let me go pussy!” the Doberman snarls at the feline as she grips his jacket collar. “I’ll fucking…..”
Then Charlie breaks free from the lioness’s grasp before he swings at her with his blade, narrowly missing her neck. The feline responds by punching the Doberman hard in the jaw, with a powerful left hook. There is a loud crunching noise as the felines paw smashes into Charlie’s jaw. His teeth and blood spew from his mouth as he falls to the ground. Charlie lies on the pavement unconscious whilst the lioness stands over him. For several moments the lioness process to breath heavily and shake slightly out of shock. Then her gaze falls upon the small wolf cub who sits by the garbage bags, shaking like a leaf and with tears in his eyes.

“That kid needs my help. I hope that he isn’t seriously injured and needs hospital treatment” the lion thinks to herself as she approaches him.
“Hey, are you okay hon?” the feline asks Leo as she kneels down to his level. Like most African lions, the feline has yellow honey coloured fur, with her muzzle and paws being cream coloured. She has hazel-coloured eyes and noticeably she has a muscular build. Her attire consists of a dark blue, sports vest top and shorts.
The little wolf looks back at the stranger before he shakes his head.
“No not really. I almost died back there” the little wolf tells her. Tears fall from his eyes and he begins to sob.
Then the lioness surprises Leo by lifting him up into her arms, with practically no effort at all.
“Hey, its ok baby. Your safe with me” the feline coos. “I’ll take you back to my place and get you cleaned up.”
The wolf child, immediately begins to feel a sense of comfort and safety, wash over him as the lioness carries him out of the alleyway.

“Thank you, Miss” the wolf tells her as he gulps back a sob. “What should I call you?” he adds trying to sound polite.
“My name is Angel. Angel Savannah. But your welcome to call me “Miss Angel” if you like” the lioness tells him warmly as she proceeds to carry him down the street.
“What an awesome name. Are you really an angel from the heavens, come to rescue me?” the wolf finds himself saying.

The feline chuckles in response.
“Perhaps I am. What’s your name kid?”
“My name is Leonardo Lupin, but everyone calls me Leo for short.”
“Nice name kid. It suits ya. You look very young. Your around eight or nine, aren’t you?” the feline asks him.
“Nope, I’m almost twelve. I suppose, I look young for my age” the little wolf replies.
“Ah, I see. You wanna guess how old I am?” Angel asks him.
“Um…. Eighteen? If I’m wrong, then I’d say early twenties?”
The feline chuckles in response.
“Now that’s a fine complement for a thirty-two-year-old gal.”
“It is?” the little wolf says.
“Oh, absolutely kid. Now Leo. Are you fine with me asking you a few questions?” the lioness asks him.
Leo nods his head in response.
“So back there, who was that Doberman?”

“That was Charlie. He is my mother’s boyfriend” Leo explains. “He is a right asshole! Beating me up and breaking my possessions for no good reason! Earlier he tried to kill me…”
“Oh God. I’m sorry to hear that, I really am” Angel tells him. “What about your mother?”
“My mother Kate is even worse. Thanks to her, I got that cut on my shoulder.”
“Has your mother and her boyfriend, been abusing you?” Angel asks him.
“Yes. They have been” Leo said firmly. “They are also taking all sorts of drugs such as weed and cocaine.”
“Well at least you’ve told me. It can be delt with now” Angel says. “Once we get to my place, I’ll contact the police. I live in the residential area of Watersmane. It’s not too far from here.”
“Thank you, Miss Angel.”

Before Leo knows it, they have arrived at Angels house. It’s a large, cream coloured 1950s style house. Once inside Angel brings Leo into her living room, where she tends to his wounds by cleaning his cuts and placing sticky plasters over them. She gives him a blue t-shirt of hers to wear, since his white one is covered in blood. She even makes him a nice cup of hot cholate to drink.
Whilst Leo sits down on a comfy brown sofa enjoying his drink, Angel is on her mobile phone to the police, informing them of what just occurred down the alleyway with Charlie. The lioness then tells the police on the phone of Leo’s home address, (which he told her about earlier, when she was cleaning his wounds) so police officers can be sent over to arrest Kate.

“Ah, some offers should be over in the next ten minutes. Alright, Thank you” Angel says before she puts down her mobile phone.
“How are you feeling Leo darling?” Angel asks the wolf cub. “Some police officers should be over soon to question you.”
“I’m good miss Angel. I’m a bit shaken up. Not to mention that my shoulder and feet sting but that aside I’ll live. I could be much worse” Leo informs her.
“That’s good to know” Angel says before she settles down on the sofa next to him.
“Also thank you for this hot chocolate. It’s delicious” Leo tells her politely before he downs the last of his drink from the mug.

“Your very welcome little one” Angels tells him as she gives his head-fur a tassel.
“So Miss Angel…. Mind if I ask you a few questions?”
“Sure thing kid! You can ask me anything” the feline tells him warmly.
“Okay, earlier when you saw me and Charlie down the alleyway.  What where you doing out in that area? It was late at night, and no one else seemed to be around.”
“I was out training kido. Building myself up” the lioness informs him. “I like to see myself as an athlete. Hitting the gym, pumping iron, going out for a run whenever I can. Hell, even though it’s a long shot, I plan on entering the Olympics.”
“Do you go boxing?” Leo asks her. “That was a pretty cool punch you pulled earlier. You knocked that twat Charlie out perfectly.”
“Oh, I haven’t been boxing for ages now, kid. I have been practicing self- defence though in case I run into a thug on the streets, who decides to attack me.”

Leo nods before he gulps down the last of his hot chocolate from the mug.
“That was great hot chocolate Miss Angel” the little wolf tells her politely as he hands her his empty cup.
“Your welcome love” Angel said as she places the mug on a nearby coffee table before settles herself down besides Leo on the sofa. Then she notices Leo shaking slightly, so she places a furry muscular arm around him.
“Are you cold little one?”
“No, I’m not cold. I’m just a bit nervous” Leo tells her. “However, your welcome to keep your arm around me. Only if you’re fine doing that. It’s a long time since I’ve really been comforted by anyone really.”
Then to Leo’s surprise, Angel lifts him up onto her lap and proceeds to hug him, purring as she doses so. The little wolf hugs her back, wagging his bushy wolf tail.
For the next ten minutes, they stay in each other’s arms until there is a knock on the door.
“That must be the police” Angel announces before she gets up from the sofa to answer front door, temporally leaving Leo alone in the room. Then moments later there is the sound of voices before Angel followed by two police offers enter the living room. One of the police offers is a slender female cat, with black and white fur. The other officer is a tall male German shepherd.

“Hi Leo, I’m officer Barker” the shepherd informs Leo as he shakes his paw.
Next the female cat introduces herself to Leo.
“I’m officer Tabby” the cat tells him as she also shakes his paw. “Angel has informed us earlier on the phone, that your biological mother and her boyfriend have been physically abusing you.”
“They have been” Leo says to the cat. “They started acting aggressive towards me last year for no reason whatsoever. I was barely able to get away from them.”
“Well, your safe from them now son” Officer Barker says to him. “A team have been sent over to your mother’s house to arrest her. There is also a team of officers, that will be heading down to that area, where that Charlie fellow should be.”

“Sounds great. I hope those assholes get charged for attempted murder and drug possession, as well as child abuse!” Leo finds himself saying. “Charlie Jones is a drug dealer after all.”
“Well, I do hope so myself” the dog says. “Both those canines sound like dangerous individuals, especially if they attempt to stab other mammals. They need locking up for sure.”
“So Leo. Would you been fine with letting us know what exactly happened earlier this night?” the cat asks him. “Only if you feel like it, dear.”
Leo nodded before began his tale.

                                                            ********
Meanwhile, down the alleyway, the police and an ambulance team have found Charlie.
“That’s him alright. That’s Charlie Jones.” a Labrador police offer says to a rabbit pracademic, who is busy examining the injured Dobermans body. Charlie is barely conscious as he lies in a puddle of his own blood, that continues to ooze out from his mouth.
“Best get him to a hospital. Once he has recovered, then we will charge him for his offences” the offer says.
Four furs in uniform carefully lift Charlie onto a stretcher before they take him to an ambulance van.

                                                   *******
“That little fucker” Kate growls as she presses a damp rag against her bloody eye. The she-wolf is seated down at the kitchen table, smoking a joint in an attempt to numb the agonising pain.
“Charlie better be back soon. He better have found Leo and murdered him. Or even better, he drags Leo back to me alive. I’ll gauge both of his eyes out and see how he likes it…..”
Kate then pops a handful of pain killers into her mouth before she washes them down with a gulp of whisky from her goblet.
“Oh that hit the spot……… Fuck this pain!”
Then there is a loud crashing noise as the front door is broken open by a battering ram, which causes Kate to almost jump out of her skin in fright.  Next several armoured police officers charge into the kitchen, instantly surrounding Kate.

A bury looking stallion and a hulking bull clad in riot gear approach Kate, who is now shaking uncontrollably with fear. The reality of getting arrested is beginning to dawn on her.
“It’s my son’s fault! He’s out of control!” Kate finds herself yelling at the two officers. “He scratched me! He blinded me! Then he ran away! Whatever he told you about me is a lie!”
Then she bursts into tears.

“Calm down Mrs lupin. We’ll get you to a hospital” the stallion says to her firmly. Then with assistance from the bull officer, they help the injured and highly intoxicated she-wolf to her feet, before they escort her out of the house to a police van. Kate begins another sob story to the officers about how Charlie manipulated her into keeping drugs in her house and how he beat her up if she didn’t comply.
Back inside the house, several of the police officers proceed to search the house for weapons and drugs.

                                                        *********
“That’s all what happened officer. I just wish that I’d told someone about this earlier” Leo says to the feline police officer as he finishes his story about the events that had occurred earlier that night. “I was scared that no one would believe me. Not to mention what my mother and Charlie would do to me, if they found out that I’d reported them. There was also Charlie telling me how bad orphanages where, which didn’t help me either.”

“Hey, its aright Leo” the cat officer tells him reassuringly. “At least you’ve told us now. It is all being dealt with. Both of your carers should be imprisoned for their crimes, and you can hopefully live a better life.”
Just then officer Barker returns to living room having received a call earlier.
“Good news Leo. I’ve been informed by my colleagues that; they have been able pick up your mother Kate and her boyfriend Charlie” the officer informs him. “They’ve been taken to hospital due to their injuries. However, as soon as they’ve recovered, then they will be both be detained in prison and charged in a court.”
“That’s a relief” Leo finds himself saying with a smile on his face.
“That’s good to know” Angel said. “Those two awful canines sound extremely dangerous. I hope Charlie gets life imprisonment for trying to murder me and the kid.”

“I’m no judge but I wouldn’t be surprised if Charlie does get that type of sentence given to him” Officer Barker says. “Now Leo. Do you have any family that we could try and get in touch with?”
The little wolf shakes his head in response.
“Kate is the only blood family that I have left alive. My grandma died last year and don’t know where my father is.”
“Never mind son” the shepherd tells him. “In that case come to the station with us. There we will contact social services and they will find a place for you to stay.”
“I understand Officer. If I end up having to live in an orphanage, then I accept that. I just hope that the orphanage isn’t as bad as what my parents have made them out to be. I sure hope there aren’t rough kids there that will thump me around.”

“Orphanages aren’t that bad kid. Sounds like a nasty scare tactic from those two awful canines” Officer Tabby tells him reassuringly. “In fact, there is an orphanage called Berry Side, that is not far away from here. I’ve heard good things about that place. Cubs are well looked after by the carers and a majority of them are happily adopted.”

The little wolf smiles and nods his head.
“Before we go, can I say goodbye to Angel?” Leo asks the two police officers.
“Of course, son” the German Shepheard tells him.

Leo turns to the lioness and hugs her, before says politely “Miss Angel. I can’t thank you enough for saving my life back there. Other than saying thank you, how else could I repay you?”
“Sweetheart, there is no need to repay me. Your very welcome” Angel tells him as she hugs him back. “I strongly believe that goodness is its own reward. Tonight, I done the world some good by saving you and bringing down a dangerous criminal.”
“Will I see you again?”
“Of course, you will sweetheart. That’s a promise” Angel tells him reassuringly. “Besides you know where I live don’t you, Leo?”

“I do indeed. I won’t forget it” Leo said, before he tells her the address quietly to her. Earlier when Angel had been on the phone to the police, Leo had heard her saying her address into the phone. He also knew the area she lived in and her house number.

“Excellent, your welcome to visit me anytime you want to kid. However, if I’m not home, just drop me a note through my letter box” the feline tells him warmly.
“I will Miss” the little wolf says, his busy tail wagging with happiness.

He joins to the two officers, who bid the lioness goodbye, before they exit Angel’s house. Officer Tabby helps Leo into the back seat of the police car, making sure he is comfortable and that his seat belt is fastened correctly.
As the police car begins to move off, Leo finds himself looking back at Angels house, until it is gone from his sight.

“What a day it’s been” Leo thinks to himself. “At least my mother and Charlie, should be out of my life for good now. Also, it’s amazing that I have a guardian angel out there, to protect me. I can’t wait to meet her again.”
