Aaaand this is more or less what I said to that one jackass who wanted to argue that the tree was wrong and Nigel was OWED a position or something. Go figure.

quite the belligerent little shit he's become. blame his failures on the tree and make himself worse and worse instead of working to understand what she told him when he was denied. I can understand why people would support him looking at what a little brat mira had become by comparison, but knowing how much he'd spiral instead of improve like a good man would. I'd say that was quite the foresight on her part.
much of that is probably intentional, too. a good person can have a bratty personality. all the better for the good in them to shine through. but then there's this. that little scarf won't make him a guardian even if nobody stopped him. she should probably just let him take it. he's obviously not understanding what she told him.

Lets be honest here for a second, he was a little kid who was brought up that way. Of all things to be lacking, I do believe had the tree taken him in then, she could have steered him on to the proper path. Frankly as it stands very few of the currently surviving guardians(her daughter and chili included) hold true to what she claims he lacks. I think this failure rests on the Trees shoulders as there is no way with her abilities that she couldn't see how Nigel's parents would react. And the situation he was thrown into as a result was definitely bound to have the opposite effect she wanted.

You're fucking kidding right?! That's what he lacks?! Then shouldn't most of the "guardians" be removed as we seen they also lack that?! Nigle is right to be pissed off, I mean he was a kid and could've been shown how to do so easily and what's worst it seemed he had that trait

I still think that this is the sticking point - nobody is just born altruistic. If you want to see a trait in a child, you need to train that trait into them. He never failed, his parents failed to instill this trait She wants. But he wound up paying the price for that with near-abandonment. It was not Her fault, but it WAS the result of Her actions and Her, frankly, unrealistic expectations. Some would argue that She had no obligation to him, but if I found out that my words led to someone becoming homeless, you damn well better believe I'd reach out to them with more than platitudes. Maybe now I'm the one being unrealistic, but if a god has inferior morals to a mortal..... what good are they?

I am legit confused about this story now. What was her expectation... i mean really... not teach him, not lead him, not show him the way, not guide him, just... what am i looking at here? Anyone got a larger context or something on this? What did she expect would happen to him after he failed and his family ditched him? He's just gonna magically learn compassion?
Okay, she failed him because of a lack of compassion. That part is perfectly understandable. Everything after that however is... i have no idea whats going on.

He spent his life training for it. he wanted to be a guardian to prove he trained hard enough, not to actually be a guardian. Being one requires self sacrifice and a desire to protect the weak around them. he didnt have that. He just wanted the renown and recognition of continuing his family legacy.
When she turned him down, she didnt tell him or his parents why. If she had his parents would have seen the error of their ways. And he would have understood that its not about status or family legacy. its about the greater good. However she neglected to do so. So when he got home, he was neglected, pushed aside, ignored, and abused psychologically. He finally snapped and left his home. His parents dont care because in their mind he is 'defective' and thus not worth remembering. His brother, however, loves him and wants him to come home so they can be family again.
Nigel himself only knows the pain and grief her judgement without explanation left him in. He cant grasp that she was trying to help when the result of her misspoken words was to upend his life, take his parents affection away from him, and leave him as a literal worthless waste of life as far as everyone around him was concerned.
She didnt explain, and he paid the price.

I feel his pain. And honestly I want him to strike her across the face. Not kill her, not even hurt her. Just let her FEEL his pain, his anger, his sorrow, his anguish. She can talk like that all she wants but honestly, ppl like her are disconnected from the world around them. They are wise but stupid. They mean well but have no idea how much damage they do just by opening their mouth. SO just this once I want her to feel it from him. Just one good, hard, meaningful slap.

Yeahhh, no, Luna. I've been following the story since the beginning (and continue to follow on patreon), but I can't agree with her course of action. Sure, compassion is needed, but his parents lacked that completely given what we've seen of them.

I want to clarify one thing...did Luna know that after Nigel was first rejected of becoming a guardian caused him to leave his family and home because of what shit parents he had?

Luna was so keen on being a mother, why didn't she take Nigel in after he left his home? Y'know, take him under her wing and try to teach him kindness and compassion herself? Or did she want him to learn humility for himself? and what about those nightmares? What were they then? Visions? A warning? A sign he may be corrupted by the Chaos?
