I never liked Harry Potter. Also my conservative Christian parents were fantasy nerds (my dad's nickname was Hobbit when he was younger) and had more specific reasons for not allowing the books than "magic is always from Satan"; namely, that there was no moral consistency coming out of the authority figures.
Breaking all the rules is okay so long as you're Harry Potter. My mom read the first three books and didn't let any of us read any of them, hahaha.
I wound up not being interested in it, unlike Dungeons & Dragons which was also forbidden but for different reasons.
