Ah back when I was very much on the Star Trek species redesign kick. Still pretty proud of this one. As usual I did a more codex style thing to go with this.
Native to the Delta Quadrant the Borg are a race of networked cyborgs. A fine melding of biology and technology. The later allows them to connect mind to mind with one another such that there are no individuals. Merely the Hivemind referred to as The Collective. Beyond originating in the Delta Quadrant little is known about the early history of the Borg. Their origins are shrouded in mystery and if Liberated Borg are anything to go by it is a mystery even to them as some had said the Borg have lost the records of that time.
The Borg have the primary goal of reaching a state of perfection and attempt to achieve this chiefly by the Assimilation of other species into the Collective. The borg believe these new species add to their perfection. Ideas and technology are quickly absorbed into the Collective and analyze for their potential applications. Meanwhile individuals undergo genetic and cybernetic augmentation. The Borg inject their victims with nanites which spread through the blood stream replicating and assimilating. They store the individual's original DNA and rewrite it to conform to Borg standard effecting a species change on a biological level. Meanwhile other nanites are busy constructing Borg implants, the first of which connects the victim to the Collective and effectively stripping them of their individuality. When the assimilation is complete the victim is indistinguishable from any other drone save for the occasion where a drone will equip a specialized tool on it's arm for a particular job.
Drones have been noted to be precise and ruthlessly efficient in their endeavors. Capable of scaling walls even. With synthetic muscle fibers woven through their naturally enhanced muscles, alloy reinforced bones, body armor, and personal adaptive shields even a basic Borg Drone is a formidable opponent. Generally speaking it only takes two or three shots from a weapon for Borg shields to adapt to the weapon and render it useless. Offensively Borg have arm mounted weapons capable of firing energy projectiles. These are normally non-fatal as their ultimate goal is to assimilate not kill.
While Assimilation is one major way in which the Borg increase their numbers in addition to gathering intelligence on other species it is not their only method of growth. Borg will use their own genetic material to grow new drones from scratch. DNA is selected from banks, parts of it are randomized for genetic health, and the new borg is grown in a maturation chamber normally going from conception to adulthood in the span of two years. Assimilated children meet a similar fate as once assimilated they too are place din a maturation chamber to be rapidly grown to adulthood.
The state of affairs regarding the Borg Collective at this moment in time is unknown. Due to the actions of the then Captain Janeway and an Alternate future version of her the Collective has been dealt a serious blow. Many millions if not billions of Borg were suddenly freed from the collective leaving what remains scrambling to hold territory. While Borg space does not appear to be as large now intelligence suggest the Borg have maintained corridors along the entire length of what was once their territory. Suggesting that even in their weakened state the Collective plans it's rebound. As the galaxy struggles to cope with liberated drones trying to regain their lives or figure out what to do with their newfound individuality one thing is certain. The lone Borg ship you may detect on rare occasion is simply One of Many.
Well hope you guys liked the pic and the lil Codex thing. ^^
