I'm mostly just posting this for accountability at this point, and as an opportunity to explain what I've been up to lately.

I had realized that my specific interpretation of lucarios (and more specifically aura) in the context of all the fetish stuff I make is somewhat unique, and while I could convey it bit by bit over time through different scenarios I depict (like what I've already done with Jay, for instance), it could be fun to collect it all into one place, making something of an illustrated compendium of how it all works.  Of course, that meant actually drawing lucarios, which has historically given me (weirdly variable, but always non-negligible) trouble.  That meant this could double as an opportunity to nail down a process for getting comfortable drawing something unfamiliar, which has always been a sticking point for me, and it would have the happy side effect of being more comfortable drawing Jay afterwards as well.

These sketches are some of that process, where I basically just kept drawing things to try to develop some muscle memory and also figure out what did or didn't work.  You'll notice the proportions varying a bit for that very reason.  I focused on the things that always gave me the most trouble, namely the legs, which I finally found a way of breaking down into simpler shapes.  Not everything made it into this compilation, though, since anything that turned out particularly poorly just got scrapped on the spot (I try to take kind of a cavalier attitude to sketches like these in an attempt to convince myself that I'll be able to draw them again with little effort).  Ideally, I'd have drawn these at a few different angles as well (and you can see a bit of that with the legs), but I didn't get quite that far.

The reason I'm laying all this out now instead of delivering the originally envisioned product is that I've ended up deciding to shelve it for the time being.  I have made some encouraging progress in drawing lucarios, but not quite enough yet, particularly in their torsos.  After some weeks of doing only this, though, I need to move on to something else, both for my own contentedness and so that I don't get too stale on other things.  It's admittedly been massively worsened by difficulty finding time to draw anything at all lately, but I'm on the cusp of resolving that.  Banging my head against the wall on this for too long is making me feel unhappy with my work again, and I need to get back to actually producing something deliverable, not to mention making something in colour again (both because it looks nice and because going months without doing that is bad for my own abilities).

Honestly not sure yet what I'll move on to next, but hopefully something more “normal” for my gallery, and I'll consider returning to this idea again at some point.
