Personality
Mikan: Very assertive, energetic, always ready to play and do something new. Impulsive, mischievous.

Chiaki: Calming yin to Mikan's chaotic yang. Voice of reason, slightly shy and always willing to help others.
Likes/Dislikes
Mikan: Likes playing, coming up with pranks, and getting attention. Dislikes being bored, being asked to do things she doesn't want to.

Chiaki: Likes cooking, cute things, and praise. Dislikes untidy spaces, loud noises and violently aggressive personalities.
Background/History
Mikan and Chiaki are a pair of very close friends who frequent the human town nearby. They're known by most of the residents, and are known to help out the businesses (such as the local bakery or the hot spring inn up in the mountain) when they can. They're also known to pull pranks on tourists and newcomers, though they're ultimately harmless.

Of the two, Mikan is the more assertive one, but Chiaki's quick wit and grounded nature ensures that she behaves to a point. Together, they're attached at the hip, and one is ever rarely seen without the other.
Relatives/Family
Mikan is an adoptee of the head priestess of the guardian shrine, found as a young kit in an empty box of oranges (how she came to have the name Mikan). While her "mother" may be the same size as her daughter, she commands quite an amount of respect amongst the many spirits and creatures that live in the mountain. The only one who doesn't give her that much respect is Mikan herself.

Chiaki's family is much more involved in the town at the mountain's base. His father runs many odd jobs in a human disguise, while his mother tends to the youkai town in the mountain, often running things alongside the head priestess. This is how the two young youkai came to know each other.
World/Setting
At the base of a mountain, there exists a small town. Many local shops line the streets, and you're more likely to drive through the town than live in it. The residents are mostly older folks, with their children and grandchildren running the shops. Often, you will see many household shrines to various spirits and deities, as the town's residents feel deeply connected to the gods of the earth.

This is because in the mountain, there exists another town populated by youkai. This is where Mikan and Chiaki live. Despite its chaotic appearance, the various spirits, monsters and even gods manage to eke out an existence between themselves and the humans that often come up the mountain to enjoy the sights. If you ever come up there, always make sure to pay your respects, lest the spirits take offense.
Clothing
Mikan: Often wears casual, easy-to-wear clothes (simple slip-on dresses, shirt/skirt combos, etc.). Carries same philosophy with footwear, so usually wears flip-flops. Blonde hair, only ever in a ponytail if it gets in the way.

Chiaki: Also one for casual wear, usually going for shirts and shorts, only dressing in layers when necessary.
