Whatever problem comes along, Gir will probably only escalate things anyway.
Using only what I've got right now, which amounts to ArtRage Studio Pro and Paint Tool SAI English Pack 1. They're small, they're quick and they work immediately without any dirty work installing and come with a shit-ton of texture and brush options out of the box.
As long as you're not unhappy painting, they'd serve anyone well who did not have Photoshop (like I temporarily don't until I resolve my own tech issues) and they're both far FAR cheaper to afford.
It's a pretty different look that your standard boring airbrushed Photoshop look, but I honestly prefer it, though both SAI and ArtRage have fine stabilizing pens and airbrush tools for that very purpose, plus layers and basic blending modes.
I miss Warping/Distort and the ability to do text nicely, but it's not usually necessary. There's also a funny workaround in ArtRage that involves using PAINT to make a black and white bitmap of a font or text, then setting that as a Stencil.
