Seven years after being thoroughly dishonored and emotionally broken throughout the darkest times of New Havens history, Ace was given the chance of a lifetime. One Detective Inspector Shiro Tannaka came forward with need of his services as a mercenary. The payment would come primarily in the form of the chance for revenge, served hot from business end of a smoking gun. It would appear that there were certain criminals with key political benefactors that had a hand in Ace's downfall, those many years ago. With his fall from fair graces, they were exceedingly confident that they had wiped their tracks clean. After all, the wolven had become a slovenly drunkard, half-way through the bottle on most nights. In a dilapidated back alley bar on the fringe of the Trenton district, Detective Tannaka threw down a file folder on the table. Its contents spilled out in turn, documentation of conversations that may or may not have occurred, photographs, notes on observed events, the works. Through all the pomp and circumstance, it all pointed to one conclusion... Ace had been set up.
Seven years ago. That fateful night..While his wife and unborn child were being gunned down in a small apartment in the Lockes, he was chasing shadows. Looking up leads, small time criminals had kidnapped several prominent individuals of the community, and he was in hot pursuit. Crime erupted throughout the city, and he was receiving little in the means of support. Coming across a worn out warehouse on the docks, it was supposed to be an easy arrest. But yelling “Put your hands in the air, you're under arrest!” only drew a response in bullet-time, a fire fight erupting in the exchange. After a harrowing gun battle, all nine hostages were found dead, and one of the criminals had gotten away. Ultimately found responsible, Ace was later convicted for the deaths of nine hostages for “inciting a fire-fight.” While he was a cop, his name was tarnished and he turned from hero to bastard overnight. Add insult to injury, he received jail time, but was released early for “his prior service to the city”. He was still among the most hated individuals of New Haven, the public crying out for the deaths of those nine prominent individuals.. celebrities and intellectuals. Among them, little Jenny Robins, a six year old girl who was universally known as “The daughter of New Haven.” When the Jenam war reared it's ugly head, Ace volunteered himself as a soldier to another province, and faded to obscurity.
But now he was back.. the booze was slowly starting to fade away as he refocused on the situation, an intense gaze falling to the young detective before him. “They're my enemies too, you know.. and my enemies enemy is my friend. So what do you say, killer..? How about you pack those guns and kill for me. I'll make it worth your while..” The akita's youthful gaze didn't falter in the dim light, those deep blue eyes staring to the wolvens before him. With a growl, Ace replied in kind. “I don't want your dirty money..I'm doing this for the blood.” A smirk drew on the akitas face, and a faint dip of his head, as his gaze turned deadly. “If that's really what you want.. Your survival's not assured..” In the coming moments, a look of pure apathy crossed the wolves face, as he slowly got up to his feet. “Does it look like I give a shit anymore?” It only made the akitas grin widen, as the anticipation of death and destruction was awash over his psyche. “I guess not.. Let's go wage a war. I'll spare you the theatrics..but hey. Watch my back, I'll watch yours.” A grunt, as Ace straightened. “Fair enough.. but either way..Kid, you better not die on me before it's over..” A sway of his head, Shiro couldn't help but shake his head. “Didn't count on it..”
And then they were off, like two super tag-team heroes on a mission for justice. The reality was far less chivalrous, far less honorable. They'd kill half the city to get to the people they were after, if it came to that.. That meeting in the bar had occurred two hours ago. Now, Ace was on his own. He didn't have his “partner” to watch his back... Cut off from any means of support in a city that had hated his guts, the wolven was surrounded by all manner of hired guns. Unknowns, willing to fight a war to protect the syndicate and the politicians “sponsoring” them..It was at an industrial yard in the Laudon district that Ace was fighting for his life. Every bullet, every kill, filling him with satisfaction and adrenaline. It made him feel..alive. Truly alive, perhaps for the first time since that night seven years ago.. Between the flash of light and the thunderous roar of gunfire, he was running, jumping, ducking for cover. All around him, bullets pinged off worn out scrap metal or the hard brick and concrete, enough to make him flinch, jump, or slide. Whether he made it out of this alive or not did not matter anymore. Just the fact that he could die on his own terms was satisfaction enough, with added peace of mind. And yet, that one hope, the one wish to kill those at the top responsible.. He'd hope he'd run into his little blue akita pal soon, before he found himself face down in a ditch with a bullet to the brain..
Comments: I figured Ace deserved a more fitting picture, and a modern portrayal of himself. Didn't get the pose quite right, and the left hand holding the gun is a little iffy..but overall, I'm quite satisfied with how this came out.
