From a young age, Joseph was always a rather timid and shy kid. Rather skittish, too. Outside of his family clan’s desire to teach him the ways of combat(mainly from his father since he was the one always teaching him and his siblings as the man was descended from a clan of true-blooded ninjas and samurai), Joseph’s true passion was to be an artist. Which mainly consisted of him taking up things like sketching, painting, and origami. While his father never cared much for his talents in things like those, his mother always nurtured and supported Joseph’s decision to hold the paintbrush more than the sword.
However, this had eventually pushed him with his back against the wall as he was kidnapped by a secret super soldier program as a kid and was pushed to his physical limits from all kinds of beatings and punishment. This continued until finally, the program awakened two things within him. His latent powers and the powerful killer instinct his father had spent so long trying to cultivate in him. A desire to bite back against everyone and everything that hurt him. One so potent that it eventually became a second personality within Joseph- an alter by the name of Monochrome. To most a cold-blooded killer that will strike you down without a moment's hesitation.
Though that’s not the whole truth of him...
Joseph possesses a high level of strength, speed and stamina and is able to use powers such as Creation, Art and Paper Manipulation for his attacks and fighting style. While he’s not keen on killing people, he can still fight back if necessary and can use his abilities for misdirection or to attack from a distance. With his art powers, he can also create whatever he needs in a fight or to support his friends in a pinch. As well as using his paper to take various shapes and solidify them into physical constructs for battle. He can even use either power to create living creatures and vehicles.
However, they do have limits. Joseph doesn’t mind making things like smoke bombs or explosives to fight from afar, but he hardly enjoys making weapons when he has to get into melee combat. And he can only use so much power to make his constructs. If he were to run out of energy, then he can’t hold them together. Also, depending on how much he empowers his constructs, they might not be any stronger than what they’re made to look like. For example, he could create a fast car to ram through brick walls, but unless he imbues it with his own power, the durability won’t be any stronger and it’ll break down as easily as a regular non-art based car going through a wall.
He may have a devil inside of him, but at his heart, he’s still an angel and a saint to just about everybody. Pretty hard to get mad at someone THAT nice.
