Sharions are among the rarest of magical creatures in Athest but were once one of the dominant species. Over thousands of years the majority of their kind has slowly devolved, losing both intelligence and affinity with magic, but the rarer breeds still hold a great deal of power and posses an intelligence that rivals mortal men. Sharion can take on one of two forms: a quadruped, lion-like creature on land or a more shark-like form in water. Many have lost the ability to control this change and meta morph upon contact with land or water while the still intelligent breeds can change at will. On average Sharion grow to be around four feet tall at the shoulder with varying lengths according to their specific breed.
While it is currently unknown how many breeds retain their intelligence there is one confirmed case: the Sea Scorcher clan who live on the Fire Islands off the south-eastern coast of the Bethla continent. A well known member of the clan is known by the locals as Sun Song who has acted as a protector of the fishing villages along the coastline.
Sun Song, as is the rest of his clan, is a fire manipulator often projecting fire from his mouth as a means of attack. Because of his many great acts he has come to be hailed not only as a hero but as a living god who nearly all the fishermen pray to on a daily basis. Within his clan he is the most powerful of their warriors but his parents worry greatly about him as he is also next in line to lead the clan. They fear his desire for adventure will lead him from the righteous path and lead the clan to war and ruin.
