I considered pairing Ken here with Badgerine from yesterday's piece, and Benny with Tina. With a little bit more thought I realized on multiple levels that it'd be a lot more fitting to go with this batch of couples instead.

While Benny and Badgerine are defined by their faith and religiosity first and foremost, Ken and Tina are about my tumultuous history with the furry fandom.

Ken dates back initially to a doodle back in 2007 or 2008 wherein my goal was to make a character design using only right and 45 degree angles and to see what I could come up with, winding up with a little fox dude. At first I called this Fred, then Ken as a pun on Japanese words for sword (as an adjective), fist/punch, and dog. Noting the scientific name for coyotes (which had become my favorite canine in early 2009, surpassing foxes) was Canis Latrans, I figured I'd change the character's main color from super high saturation red to the orange of a coyote's underbelly and name the dude Kenneth Latrans. Not long after, the OHRRPGCE developer community held its 2009 8-bit game contest, so I entered and made a game featuring Ken as the main character, and it was at this point that I made up basically everything else about him (such as his being a police officer and his general weapons of choice).

I was at the precipice of the Furry Fandom at the time, sorta kinda in denial of it being a FUNDAMENTALLY depraved group because literally all discussion of it online was either gaslighting to say anyone who makes anthro animal characters for any reason is part of it by definition or harassment of anyone who makes anthro animal characters of any sort for any reason and that being bad simply by association with the furry fandom. So obviously, grooming on one side and aggressive harassment from the other lead me to sometimes self-identify as a furry, but I always hated it. Something always felt very off even when I only browsed FurAffinity in the SFW mode and so on. Ken's personality was actually initially intended as a mockery of the widespread sexual desperation of the furry fandom, sort of a Johnny Bravo figure where he'd just bluntly and brazenly hit on any girl he sees unless there's an outstanding reason not to but beneath the desperation is actually a pretty good guy who GENUINELY just wants to settle down with the first girl who says yes (so basically me, but without being afraid to talk to girls).

So after about a decade of gradual exposure, I reached a saturation point in my own perversion where when I was without Internet to provide me with new pornographic material for a couple months, I started making an RPG with a plot revolving around  my fetishes and sexual experiences. The main hero of said game was Nezumi Kamen (shown elsewhere in my gallery, and will likely be featured in a Bride Month couple coming up soon enough), and his intended love interest was Tina Stabovich.

Tina's name origin is pretty simple and not very meaningful. I was amused by a joke in Oren Otter's comic "Journey to the Bottom of the Multiverse" in which any quest that doesn't include a weasel named Tina is doomed to fail, so I made one of the non-optional heroes for this game a weasel (black-footed ferret, specifically) and named her Tina. "Stabovich" is a fairly plausible sounding surname, vaguely Slavic, but is just a compression of English "stab a bitch" with a mild accent. I realized a few weeks ago that Tina could also be interpreted as the abbreviation "T & A", or "tits and ass", but I don't personally use that abbreviation often enough for it to have been a significant factor in my choosing it.

Tina's in-universe character origin was that she was a chaste but DESPERATELY sexual woman, because jill ferrets (female mustelids in general, actually) go into a bodily cycle that if they don't mate, their body produces more estrogen and pheromones to attract males harder and to make them more receptive to breeding, and if that doesn't work it just keeps going. So Tina's income went almost exclusively to buying estrogen blockers to prevent early onset osteoporosis in increasingly large dosage, as too much estrogen in the body leads to weak muscles and brittle bones. This "breed or die" mechanic is why I was always interested in the idea of pairing a male rabbit with a female ferret (that and my usual obsession with the food chain), but in terms of PERSONALITY Benny is a better fit for Badgerine and Ken is a better fit for Tina.

So that's two RPG heroes I made that abstractly represented me and my sexual desperation, one at the top of the slippery slope and one at my personal nadir before turning around and starting to claw my way back up. Ken eventually found the one woman who'll take him even though he's short and Tina found a guy she can trust not to just use her and bail (or to die of a heart attack upon seeing her full form, as happened to her first boyfriend and gave her some trauma to angst about).
