What is a cyborg?

A "cyborg" is any organic being that has cybernetic prostheses or implants, which serve to replace the missing parts of their body. This technology was born as a branch of medicine, however, its use has spread to other fields, such as work and the military.

Over the years, cyborg technology has been perfected and massified, becoming part of today's society. But to get to this point, it had to go through several stages.

First generation:
The first cyborgs were basically subjects with mechanical prostheses and simple implants. Aesthetically they were unattractive and sometimes had deficiencies in their synchronization, but they laid the foundations for this new technology.

Second generation:
During this stage, the synchronization of the prostheses was improved and more advanced implants began to be built. In addition, the aesthetics of the prostheses had a significant improvement, becoming imperceptible on some occasions.

Third generation:
It’s the most current stage of cyborg technology and the one that has lasted the longest. This time the prostheses and implants are connected directly to the nervous system thanks to an innovative technology developed by the controversial scientist, Dr. Igor Ivanov, who was also the creator of the "Praetorian core" for combat cyborgs. The cyborgs of this generation can feel their bionic parts as if they were real.

Fourth generation:
Still in the experimental stage, this generation uses a technology of nanomachines that are responsible for preserving the organic part of the cyborg and maintaining the mechanical part. In addition, its neural link with the individual opens the door to endless applications. This technology was developed by nanorobotic expert Dr. Naomi Akari.

Now that you know what a cyborg is...

What is an R unit?

It’s called "R unit" or simply "R", to the individuals that are part of the line of fourth generation combat cyborgs built by Delta Technologies and whose main characteristic is the inclusion of a cybernetic core that uses a Chaos Emerald as alternative power source.

This innovative technology was developed by Dr. Naomi Akari and consists of establishing a link between the cyborg's mind and the Chaos Emerald, through the use of a cybernetic core known as the Lazarus core. This core is capable of housing a Chaos Emerald within it and the link with its bearer allows it to control the unlimited power of the gem, which is then distributed among the different devices and weapons of the R unit.

R units also have a mechanical endoskeleton that serves to increase their physical strength and endurance. This endoskeleton can also take advantage of the power of the Chaos Emerald, which, added to the different weapons that the cyborg can have, make the R unit a kind of super soldier with high destructive power.

Delta Technologies built a total of seven R units, including the prototypes. Each one was designed with unique abilities and weapons. However, an eighth R unit would later be built by the Live foundation. This new unit would not have weapons, but instead would have powerful telekinetic abilities, a product of its mental link with the Chaos Emerald.

Due to its emotional connection to the Chaos Emerald, the R unit can influence the gem's behavior or vice versa. When the cyborg's emotions become too intense, a reaction occurs in the Chaos Emerald known as "chaos explosion". When this happens, the R unit loses control of its mind, becoming very aggressive and multiplying its attack power to incalculable levels. This state of uncontrollable fury is known as "Rampage".

Due to their high level of danger during the “Rampage” mode, the R units are considered weapons of mass destruction, which is why they must be under permanent surveillance.

Lazarus Core

The Lazarus Core is the R unit's main source of life and its connection to the mystical power of the Chaos Emerald. It’s a cybernetic core that acts as an artificial heart, distributing energy and nanomachines throughout the cyborg's body. Its name is due to the fact that its creator, Dr. Naomi Akari, sought to give a second chance at life to people who were evicted or about to die.

The Lazarus core also optimizes the vital functions of the R unit, giving it a long and healthy life. In addition, its nanomachines can perform micro-surgeries at high speed, accelerating the regeneration of damaged tissues.

Depending on its design, a Lazarus core can hold more than one Chaos Emerald, but the cyborg's mind can only link to one gem at a time, leaving the others as additional energy that increases its attack power.

The Lazarus core is Dr. Akari's masterpiece. An enigmatic technology that only she understands and with which she gave life to the now called "Soldiers of Chaos".

Construction and features

R units differ from other types of cyborgs in the way they are built. The patient must first undergo surgery where the heart will be replaced with a Lazarus core. After this, the patient is submerged inside a regenerating capsule known as "Chrysalis", where nanomachines will carry out the surgical process that will turn him/her into an R unit. This process is delicate and can take several days to complete.

The final result may present variations in fur color and skin tone, especially in patients who have suffered severe injuries or who have had complications during the conversion process.

The scars from the surgery will be permanently visible, as will any other external devices added during the process. Also, some R units have extra metal parts on their bodies, because these were designed to have greater physical resistance than the others.

Another characteristic of the R units is the brightness of their eyes, which intensifies depending on the amount of energy that the cyborg is using at that moment, being an indicator of their mood and the power of their attacks.

The color of the energy that the R unit emanates will depend on the Chaos Emerald that is connected to its mind.

They can use the Sol Emeralds and Time Stones as Alternative Power Source or not?

The Sol Emeralds have powers similar to the Chaos Emeralds, they could work. The Time Stones instead only serve to control time. I don't think they can be used to empower an R unit.

The Hosts need to be powerless Mobians or Mobian with powers can be candidates (If their powers do not interfere with the cybernetics)?

Of course. The candidate may have special abilities before the change process, but the concept of an R unit is to give powers to someone who doesn't.
