I wish I knew my grandfather better, but he lived most of the time in Florida. He wasn't too sensible: perhaps it was an effect of the hit & run accident he had just before or a bout the time I was born.

I recall my folks & I were about to drive down to Florida to celebrate his birthday with him. We also had a cake for the landlady. A few days before the trip, we got exasperating news: he had had a quarrel with his landlady -and packed up & left ! The trip was called off. I don't know what became of the cake, and there's nobody to ask now.

I also recall he eventually moved in with us, and mother made him smoke his pipe outside -he would stink up the curtains ! Back in 1967 (we lived in NYC at the time) he didn't wake up one saturday morning. I recall it was a saturday, because we were going to drive upstate that weekend. I recall my father remark as the coroner made preparations, that had this happened one day later, we would have been upstate and there would have been a flap over juridiction -transport of a deceased person.
