I don't think this was a dream sequence. My theory is the thought that Zen left was her fault was always in the back of her mind. Not only was it not TiNi's choice for Zen to leave (which differs from everyone else TiNi pushed away) but Zen was scared enough for his life to use illusions to get away.
I think the combination of TiNi getting kicked out of the toxic group over what is likely complete bullshit when she was so devoted to their beliefs, and TiNi realizing how few friends she actually has left just forced her to take the thought that zen leaving was her fault seriously.
