I can imagine darkness and total silence would be un nerving in space, no matter how noisy the fans are or the buzz of older flourescents can be hearing them going means "safe" I have power and air.

Power, air, water, heat, pressure, protection from micro-meteors, etc.

Electricity means you aren't about to die horribly, because space is always ready to do that to you in a million ways.
