A thought crossed my mind on this one, which is...Hopefully several bullies from the high school don't pull up in a car, get out, go to harassing them, then steal their lunch money. 😲
Cars back in the day when my stories take place were big and roomy: 1957 Mercury 1959 Cadillac 1960 Plymouth 9 passenger station wagon 1959 Chevy station wagon 1960 Chrysler 300 1955 Chevy station wagon 1952 Pontiac 1959 Oldsmobile 1957 Desoto
Except for the cars in my story of the meerkat family in Angola, Africa. Those were European and Asian built cars: 1954 Opal Olympia station wagon Renault 4

My dad had a 1961 Chrysler with a 383 cubic inch V-8 he bought used that got 19 to 20 mpg. When ever my dad hit it into passing gear you could feel the back of the seat slam against your back. That car had a top speed of 120 mph.
I had a 1977 Dodge pick up that had a 360 cubic inch V-8 that got 21 mpg. When you stomped the gas from a stand still the speedometer literally leaped up off of zero. It had a top speed of 105 mph and it could get there quick.
We had a 1974 Ford Econoline van with a 240 cubic inch inline 6 that got 18 mpg. The van only had a top speed of 86 mph (It was a slow poke).
I had a 1975 Chevy Malibu station wagon with a 350 cubic inch V-8 and a 4 barrel carburetor that got 17 mpg. I never knew what it's top speed was because it could go fast enough for the speedometer needle to go way past the numbers and disappear out of sight of the clear plastic.
Now some of the teenagers who had hot rod cars used for street racing were only getting around 8 or 9 mpg.
