What's more - each nation and often, even every new generation, tend to have different ethic standards. What was "good and dandy" suddenly becomes illegal, and vice verca.

So paying for this "Life's Essence" wasn't the line? She had to wait and interject like that, after money exchanged hands? Not, you know, during the bidding? Or even before? I'm finding the beaver's morals a little dubious. Plus, now that it's been handled for however long, it's a used product. If you're going to have doubts about something, it's best to voice your opinion before a problem arises.

I totally understand her qualms, but I don't necessarily agree with them. I wish I had an experience like this. I have always found it absolutely ridiculous that you don't really get to live your life until your mid 20s or 30s+, then you're suddenly thrust into the world with no real direction, expertise, and often times support to viably get you through life to thrive and be happy. And on top of that, people expect your age to come with just as much experience and education, which is a silly sentiment. Some people grow differently. A person may be ready for sex or other activities well before 18. On the other side, just because someone is 18, it doesn't necessarily mean they are ready. So I can understand the median age of 18, though I don't really agree with it either. Especially when too many people rely so much on it. At the end of the day, it really is just a number to many people.
The mind doesn't necessarily expand with age, it mostly expands with experience. I think that goes with education as well. A lot of education invalidates itself when all you're doing it reading vague statements out of a book. Doing hands on stuff is much more likely to stick with you over the years than a passage boringly read out loud and forgotten moments later.
And the whole "against mother nature" thing. Technically, isn't literally any form of anything not found in the wild against nature? Like the clothes and jewelry she's wearing? Or literally any form of technology? No matter how green you make something, unless it was carved directly out of a rock or weaved together with kudzu or something, that's against nature.
Sorry, just... I think about a lot of stuff, and some of those things don't make much sense to me.

Biologically the time when mammals instinctively to learn about sexuality is during puberty. Shielding anyone growing up from nearly anything sexual until this process is basically over and done with is highly unnatural and causes immense psychological damage in every generation to come.
Now this learning phase is a time where people are vulnerable to exploitation, but by denying them any experience except with "themselves" keeps this vulnerability intact - so it just prolongs the potential for exploitation until later.
From a scientific point of view our society's ethical standards in this regard are pretty fucked up and cause a lot of harm.
Exactly that. Biologically the time when mammals instinctively to learn about sexuality is during p
Just another witch. Not everyone present is a regular. Lynn has been to the meetings before, but this is her first time seeing Gwendolyn's vivid description of how she gets life's essence. It doesn't sit well with her since she has three sons close to Chucky's age. For her, witchery is fun and G-rated.

See when you're practically immortal by mortal standards things like "age" and "laws of nature" need to take a backseat, also IIRC in this era as soon as a "kid" can start helping in the house with major chores and is able to reproduce they are pretty much an "adult" by societal standards and should be regarded as such.
Also what is a witch, a person who relies on otherworld powers, doing being judgey and preachy to others?

Lynn has a more G-rated idea of witchcraft as something fun, and it's colliding with the more earthy hedonistic practices of the others. She is much more tied to her identity with normal society.

I was wondering when we were going to get back to them, especially Lynn. She seems to be the one who'll have objections on the grounds of her being a mother. Wonder what skeletons SHE has in HER closet?
Can't wait to see how this resolves. :D
