Some people are entirely committed to misunderstanding others.

It can be fascinating to watch others react to my works. They put so much of themselves and so many of their hang-ups onto me and onto the art that I create.

If you have ever worked with the public or been a figure in the public eye, no doubt you have experienced a slice of this. For artists though, this seems to be especially magnified. And as an artist, there may come a time in which someone basically projects their hang-ups onto you and then proceeds to have an argument with those hang-ups, basically ignoring you while using your work as a diving board to "explore" their own issues.

The quibbling over word choice is fascinating, too. People love to substitute their own words to express the same meanings, or to completely derail the point of the image entirely. I guess it ties into personal comfort and personal connotations. Different words trigger different reactions in people even when the meaning behind them is the same or similar.

Yeah I have seen this before as well with my own work in the public eye, sadly people want to take "x" and make "x" whatever they want it to be
No matter what you say of course, this will happen, because I suppose people are just like that

The issue is people are by default very untrusting to people they see as different in viewpoints, political or social issues hit hard with this, and usually cause an uproar of emotions at the sight of something that could be negative to them

Maybe this is a defense mechanism people made with the current climate of politics, or maybe this is something we always have had an issue with, im not sure

Yeah, I'm not sure, either. Unironically, people seem to also enjoy crying 'wolf' (even when it's just a shadow or a lamb or some leaves blowing in the wind or something). I guess we all have our own unresolved issues. It just sucks when someone projects them at you, especially when they're so far off base. lol

Yeah true, I have seen too many times someone having issues and puts everyone down for it, its just not cool
