Young Maiya is simply a character that knows Venge and Serenity frequently, and more recently Mocha and friends of the family. She had been solely taking care of a Japanese-style bathhouse, watching the income approach zero due to lack of lavish features or exposure, since her bathhouse is located on the outskirts of town, on the edge of the suburb area around Fortunopolis. But when Serenity walked into the place and asked to use the bath, Maiya gained not just a frequent customer, but also a friend and a patron, since Serenity helped spread the word about her place. Frequently, though, Maiya has noticed some of Serenity's fellow customers and her... using the bathhouse for a little bit of funtime, and her sheltered upbringing began to chisel and crumble. Her dreaming as of late have been quite softcore-R rated, but her reserved nature keeps her from acting on such desires. While not distracted in such a way, though, she loves reading books, and moreso enjoys being in nature and exploring the countryside. She remembers fondly her grandfather taking her out on trips to the backwoods, seeing such grand vistas as mountains, great valleys, sprawling forests, and so on. Nature excites her, and her books help her get as close to it as possible, from the comfort of her home.
I picked her name as follows: Maiya from "maimai", which is the pronunciation of the Japanese word for mantis. "Kurohane" may be bad "americanized" Japanese, but as far as I know, "kuro" means black and "hane" means wing, so "Blackwing". I also tried a new way of colorizing things digitally, because lining and filling in regions felt time-consuming, and I felt like I was losing some detail from doing that.
She met Reena as the venom dragon came to use the onsen, asking to see if there were a way to have a single, solitary unit. Explaining her situation, Maiya couldn't help but feel for her, so she had Reena wait until the current guests were gone, not accepting new guests, and let Reena have the whole bathhouse to herself for the rest of the evening. The two hit it off as friends as they spent that evening together, seeing that they were more alike and appreciative of their challenges. They became BFFs, and then a couple, within about a week of back-and-forth texting conversations. And a day of the onsen being "closed for maintenance".
