Some people might not like my message here but… oh, well.

I never liked #ianflynn’s Sally. There was no real reason to redesign Sally, even through the whole #kenpenders lawsuit. You don’t take a 57’ Belair and change the body because you don’t like the curves and design. There is a little more to this as well but I’m not gonna get into that… Anyway… just my two cents…

The original redesign for season 2 was already done because of parents interfering with the show. She was perfect in Season 1.

I never understood that. Let the kids play Call of Duty and slaughter a bunch of opponents, but God forbid they see some shapely female characters. Same story with the X-Men cartoon from the 90's.

People mystify me.

Because most boys already have natural urges towards masculine activities. It’s the reason they’d rather watch a pirate movie over a movie about girls looking at dresses. But looking at a womanly figure can cause reactions that their young minds don’t fully understand. It can cause developmental issues.

LOL or becoming a furry when you're older.

Actually, yeah. I remember watching a documentary on YouTube that talked about this study into Furries and their mental health, and it revealed that most people grow into being a furry over time from impulses related to what the mind considers beautiful. So when anthro animals are drawn with a figure usually assigned to beautiful women, the brain makes that connection, and the more different examples of it you’re exposed to, the more connections are made. It’s actually quite fascinating.

There is nothing manly about war.

Well, they’re usually full of men fighting and proving their strength and mettle, so technically speaking, they’re incredibly masculine. Considering what happens during them, at least.

Maybe, but it doesn't make boys into men or is heroic, romantic, glamorous or exciting. I've meet my share of guys from WW2 and they'd call it filthy, violent, dehumanizing, disgusting and far from worthwhile regardless of the legal precedent. I mentioned that to the guy who wrote the book about a WW2 badass called Phil Lameson and he said Phil would've agreed.

Just known too many people and I'm grateful my health was what it is on this subject.

The vest was a nice touch, I saw it more of a utility item like Sonic using the backpack.

it's an indictment of culture that we deal with violence better than we deal with sex

You don’t change a ‘57 Bell Air because it’s a ‘57. She got an updated look for the same reason why a 1967 Mustang GT500 doesn’t look like a 2020 Mustang GT500. They’re different things made during different times, things change.

Not much of a Ford guy XD lol but in essence, you're taking something iconic and transforming it into something that isn't. like slapping 2020 GT500 body panels to a 67 GT if that analogy makes any sense.

Sega/Sonic Team were the ones who pushed for a redesign, and the design was workshopped by Ben Bates and Ryan Jampole. Ian was in charge of writing how she behaved - which was closer to SatAM Sally than Archie Sally had been in years.
Flynn isn't some sonic boogieman who's out to ruin all the beloved 90's characters.

Plus, it was to make the Freedom Fighters fit in with the rest of the cast.

I really want to understand the reason for the redesigns if none of the games characters needed it. Of course, if you don't consider the redesign from classic to modern, but that was nothing more than a vision of everyone older. And Sally and the others had already been adapted to the modern style, so there's no reason they just have to be rebooted.
Was SEGA also annoyed/worried that Sally didn't wear any clothes?

I like Ian Flynn's redesigns but still can't understand why only the Archie cast needed to change "because the genesis wave reset everything" yeah, but since we've met Sonic we know SEGA don't give a shit about butterfly effect. So again, why ONLY they need to change?!

I think the biggest reason was to align designs across the series (males have gloves/boots/accessories, females have full outfits).  Original designs had Sally and Antoine as very prevalent outliers (Sally only wearing a vest, Antoine with a full outfit), so the redesigns brought them closer in design to the rest of the cast.  Presumably, made it easier for future design artists to have a hard and fast benchmark (which has carried on to IDW), so that they can more quickly create characters that fit the established philosophy

But at the same time it was interesting to have characters out of the loop like Sally and Antoine. And even in Forces, you can leave the male avatar with clothes and the female without. (changing the fur texture)

I don't know man... there was no problem with Sally just wearing the vest and the boots. I think part of that decision was because of how certain artists drew Sally at the time on Archie giving her a very human and sexy body breaking the immersion of the fur making her looking really naked. That probably must have encouraged Sally's decision, after all that was really uncanny/furry bait on Archie...

I think it also was redesigning them to better reflect their shifting roles (both becoming more active and successful members of the team), and showing that they're significantly different, plus giving them a more unique design.  Plus SEGA has weird rules

Sorry, I didn't quite understand "they're significantly different", do you think Sally and Antoine original designs were too much similar?
Anyway, I agree with the rest. And yes, SEGA has pretty restrictive weird rules (obviously for no other idiot like Penders try to claim something again..), but some are very exaggerated, aren't they?

Agenda? No, Sega insisted the SatAM based characters be changed to resemble the game character designs. If anything Ian Flynn and the other comic staff who loved the characters fought for the Freedom Fighters to stay when Sega was all for deep-sixing them from the comic. The redesigns had to happen if they were to survive. I don't care for the redesigns, but I never hated them either so I'm neutral on them but I ultimately like the original designs for Sally and the rest. All-in-all, it was a sucky situation and in the end, we fans lost out more than anything.

That's a fact. Agenda driven sucks, character driven always wins.
