With Yooka-Laylee & the Impossible Lair's release, the moveset of the titular duo was streamlined. It ditched many of the Banjo-Kazooie rip-off moves to instead emphasize on their rolling, not just because of the Donkey Kong Country inspiration but also emphasizing on the moves that were distinctive to the duo in the first game and worked best, expanding on what they did actually well.
In particular, Yooka got the ability to chain-roll and even a Sonic Mania-style drop dash, allowing him to have explosive bursts of speed. The mix of slower, precise plaforming and high speed momentum movement, with the duo alternating seamlessly and quickly between the two movement styles, is a big strength of the game and what allow the duo to finally feel truly unique as a platformer duo.
So! Of course, now that Yooka got a Sonic Mania-style Drop Dash, I just had to revisit this joke! :D
Shall Yooka finally clear a shuttle loop, blue blur-style?
Spoiler: Noooooope!
