Now now, I actually enjoy Yooka-Laylee 1. I've even taken it for a spin rather recently and found out it was more fun than I remembered it. However, the first game suffered from a confused identity, trying to be too big (which given its limited budget, led to struggles in actually filling up all that space), and an unbalanced moveset (flight, in particular, completely and utterly breaking the game. The spindash being a fantastic idea... that is made obsolete too quickly by said flight. And other such issues).

Mixed with controversy and Yooka-Laylee 1 became a divisive game. Everyone was however taken by surprise when a sequel was launched. And even more when it turned out a 2D/3D hybrid platformer. But above all, when it absolutely and utterly struck a homerun, learning every single lesson it could from the first game and being an improvement on so many levels that it's unbelievable.

The art style actually works, the emphasis on speed and duo actions actually make the duo distinctive-feeling, it has legit interesting ideas on progression and level design, an amazing soundtrack, a narrative that is shorter yet more efficient and draw a more interesting picture of the world and characters, and essentially it's everything the first game should have been (apart from being a 2D/3D hybrid platformer instead of fully 3D).

Needless to say, I was inspired and drawn this comic to illustrate how things turned out.

Never Forget, DK... DONKEY KONG he's the leader of the bunch, you know him well! and he's also surprisingly deep at times! Rare studios had a bunch of great games back in the day their legacy lives on, so long as they have the will to keep making games.

That good old cheesy DK64 rap! A Yooka-Laylee version was made by the dev team, believe it or not. It is every bit as goofy! :D

And indeed, I'm glad that the dev team remembered that they have more to draw back from than just Banjo. They are the ones behind Donkey Kong Country after all! Also, yes, they are to blame for the masterpiece of evilness that is Battletoads.
