The Japanese don't hold a monopoly on kaiju. The Norse spoke of Yggdrasil, an ash tree so immense entire worlds were nestled within its boughs. In its highest branches, a nameless eagle and its kin nested while the wyrm Níðhöggr gnawed away at one of its humongous roots. But between them ran Ratatoskr, a monstrously-sized squirrel for a massive tree, funneling scurrilous gossip between the eagle and Níðhöggr. Imagine the squirrel who has the respect of two members of species that would normally eat rodents. No one messes with Ratatoskr. At least he seems to like us....
