I was tired today, so I drew this in a single sitting free-hand with a magenta sharpie. I coloured it to break it up visually and to make it look more complete. :)
Salvation is NOT the rejection of all that exists in favour of delusions and traditional superstitions. It is not rejection of all that exists in favour of our pitifully tiny and narrow-minded mental projections about the way things "should be." Groups have known this for millennia: fear sells. If you want people to conform to your homogenous views and to the denial of reality itself, then indoctrinate them with phobias. So many churches and people reject the idea of a personal saviour (even though they talk about it a lot) and replace it with the idea of a personal tormentor. To them, fear is sacred, and "The Devil" is their "Holy Idol."
They don't feel that they need to think critically or work through their own emotions when they can just scapegoat a group or blanketly condemn observations about the earth and her people as being "evil." Boiling everything down to "good vs. evil," "right vs. wrong," "us vs. them," "all vs. nothing," is a GREAT way to control people (especially yourself). It's LAZY AS HELL, but that seems to be where some people's hearts are: Hell. And they want you there so they can feel better about their own maniacal decisions!
Let me say this clearly: Anti-intellectualism is not godly thinking. Xenophobia and racism are not godly thinking. Bigotry is not godly thinking. Anti-scientific or anti-philosophical rhetoric is not godly thinking. Period. If you have a problem with that, then you have a problem with yourself and with Reality. If you actively deny things about this place (like the fact that gay people exist or the fact that medical science is a thing), then you deny those aspects of Holy God, and you create a dangerous schism in your own personality to boot.
Stop blaming some nefarious anti-force and recognize that this "ungodly force" is a part of your psyche. That is, if you have the courage to do so. Many do not. Many favour their compartmentalizing and demonizing rhetoric over facing reality as it is. They feel safer if everybody and everything else is "evil." Because, you know, they're "good (or God is good for them)." Like the children in Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, they've "got the Golden Ticket." And by God, they're going to feel like Charlie (even when they act more like the other children), consequences and reality be put aside!
To those people, I say: "Namaste. I wish you all the best." <3
