His kind only gains sapience once they devour and subjugate a strong will. Normally, this either fails (and they die) or it succeeds (and goes very wrong, and they die). Pinnacle here is one of the rare "stable" kind who succeeded and proceeded to swear off any more people eating. So he gets to be sapient AND stable.

No two of them are alike to begin with. The devouring isn't merely to expand the gestalt. They Obtain, catalog, and use the genetic data they devour to change themselves into ever stronger hunters. Sapience adds to their mental abilities, but non-sapient beings are also useable for more physical aspects.

if i was to describe it to someone that had never seen one based on traits alone and charicters from other mediums id say they were kinda like a blend of asari, borg, and chimera ants (mass effect, star trek, and hunter x hunter respectivly for the source of those races) just instead of a hive of drones in a cube, its all boiled down into a single perfected hunter......why do i get the feeling the predator species from alien and the hirojin from star trek would absolutley love these guys in all the wrong ways...
