I taught myself to use Maya via tutorial vids, and Wilykat was my first serious stab at making a finished product. Sadly Maya's 'educational' license only applies to those attending fancy universities that have paid off Autodesk for bulk Maya licenses. And AD started nagging me for 'proof' that I was attending Yale, lol.. Also my trial for Vray ran out.

So, I never did end up completing this cutie, or animating him >,< (after the Vray trial ran out, I got tired of having multi billion dollar companies constantly attempting to limit my capabilities, and side-burnered this..)

Just FYI, hair/fur/irises aside, all the colors on this are just recolored polygons. I hadn't gotten around to making the actual texture/shader images for most of it, and that's why it looks so (relatively) bland. It's basically the 3d artist version of flat coloring a picture. Also why some of the color borders look off, since I was limited 1 color per polygon, and only did that to get a better feel for how it would look in the end (a lot easier to do that, than to make a crapload of image files, only to discover I hate the look in the end) .

The first pic shows him at all angles.

The second is an older render from before I got Vray (see why I won't continue without it?)

The third I'd fully redone his hair(with exception of the lower back part by his neck, which I had planned to work on later)

The forth is mostly just a different angle from the first but with hair color redone to be more accurate.

The fifth through seventh, I began adding fur to the face (The Hitler mustache was unintended :-P, that's just how the fur initially generated). I also made an actual paint texture for the head(hence the face pattern looks more accurate and eyebrows are gone, I was debating on adding the brows as a separate piece to give more of an animated range in emotions)

The eighth and final render, I had tidied up the facial fur a bit and added some noise and such to make it look a bit more realistic. I also re-colored the polygons on his nose and lips just to test how it would look before adding that to the base texture image file (hence the clowny lips >,<). But that was the last render I got done b4 Vray conked out.

That's actually really well done. Shame it was never finished.

Thx. Maybe I'll get back to it someday. I just find it really difficult to be motivated for much of anything when my life is so empty. >,<

Not one that I plan to release currently. Honestly it started out as an anatomically correct character, but it turned out better than I thought it would, so I ended up eventually removing the bits, and attempting a more.. legit model. But then greedy corporations got greedy, and ramped up my frustrations with simple things like being able to run the program, and plugins without spending thousands of dollars that I don't have. So I kinda gave up. Though I'd like to finish him someday..

Side note; love your character, Ty. He's a real cutie.
