Sunshine wanders around the infirmary, looking for either a staff member or at least some other familiar face to ask about what had happened and why they had already returned to HQ. He spots a red and white husky dog in a nurse’s uniform and approaches to speak to her, causing her to accidentally bump into him when she turns around.
“O-Oh! You’re awake!” The nurse smiles at him “What are you doing out of bed? You should be resting.” She says, gently resting her hand on Sunshine’s back when he sways a bit and shuts his eyes due to another wave of dizziness.
“I-I’m fine, I just want to know what happened. How did I end up back here? The last thing I remember was being trapped in one of Infinite’s illusions… Did I pass out? Do you know if the rescue mission was successful?” The hedgehog asks, his fear of having failed to bring the kids home clear on his face and in his voice. He just wanted to have his little boy back.
“W-Well, the children have been brought back here, but they won’t let anybody near them. The girl keeps asking for her Papa and the boy is throwing things to protect her. He says that he’ll only talk to his Dad.” The nurse explains to Sunshine, who freezes in shock.
“Th-They’re here? Can you take me to them now?” The hedgehog asks anxiously, starting to feel nauseous again. If anyone could get through to Sol it would be him, hopefully the same could be said for his husband and Pandora.
Sunshine stood outside a closed door with Starlight on the opposite side of the infirmary than where he had just been in his room, having been lead there by the nurse. His hands were shaking nervously and his ears were standing straight up when he hears the sound of a little girl crying and a young boy’s voice demanding to see his Dad. The hedgehog’s heart pounds in his chest and he starts to feel dizzy again, feeling a familiar presence trying to reach out and form a mental connection with him, just like Black Doom had attempted to do with him. But this presence wasn’t aggressive or controlling, rather it was anxious and slightly agitated, almost desperate to reach out to anyone able to respond to this kind of connection.
Was that Sol? Was he trying to reach out to Sunshine as a way to identify who they were to each other? There’s only one way to find out…
After nearly an hour of shouting, talking things out, crying, then eventually fainting, Sunshine was back in his bed in the infirmary with Sol snuggled up to his side, now sound asleep and clearly exhausted from the day’s chaotic events. Pandora wasn’t as trusting and open as Sol, but the young boy had convinced her that the adults were not a threat to them. Eventually, the little rabbit had decided that it would be safe to let Starlight hold her. However, she still refused to speak to anyone other than Sol and kept asking him when they could go home before settling down enough to fall asleep shortly before the little boy had.
Sunshine looks over to his husband and grins brightly, tears still in his eyes. The kids were finally home, their family was complete at last.
