From the creators of 'Max and Ruby' we have an animated series ...that may as well be 'Franklin Minus Two Years' :p

I'm referring to 'Timothy Goes to School' (TGtS): a slice-of-life, adventures-in-kindergarten series that ...I don't care much for. ^^

Anyway, I've drawn from TGtS before ...and, as expected, hated the result. Hence I have redrawn my previous TGtS subject: Yoko. :3

Yoko is from Japan. She and her mother moved to Canada for some reason. Consequently (or 'by that virtue', if one likes TGtS), Yoko gets to attend kindergarten with Timothy. ^^

That's effectively all I know of the show. ^^

As for my ACEO, I wasn't too imaginative with Yoko's pose. To be brutally honest with my watchers, I find the TGtS cast rather ...difficult to draw?
I ended the last statement with a question mark, since this ACO turned out fairly well CONSIDERING it's only my second attempt at the character (my first since March 2020), but I had to draw her freeform.
I get the impression the animators draw a widened cone shape for Yoko's dress ...which is also her body, ie., there's no pear-shaped 'Yoko' under there, lest her form would appear much slimmer (though would be more technically correct).
I had to resist the urge to draw a body under there, lest my attempt at Yoko would look too much like Gene/Mimi. :p

TLDR: I pretty much focused on making Yoko look good. Failing that, I yet cannot say I've any regrets as my original Yoko drawing attempt didn't feature a pencil beside. This one gets to, and it's a NICE one!

But before we get to that...

So... pencil. :3

This is a vintage 'Yacht' brand pencil from Japan. I dunno much about Yacht other than they were among the big three Japanese brands of pencil---the others being Mitsu-Bishi (not to be confused with the car company) and Colleen (yes, I have some of each and will get to them when I get to them).

EDIT: correction: Tombow is the third ...I somehow mingled Yacht in there. lol

I really, really, REALLY wanted to test my Yacht pencil, but mine is unsharpened and is (at the time of writing) the only one I have. That said, I have used Japanese other pencils before, and I can say the graphite from these is buttery smooth; there is a notable difference in quality, even among Japan's 'budget' pencils (like the Heart-Shaped pencil from Goody).

Note that little symbol above the 'HB' on this one? That little mark is significant, as it's a brand of quality. Bob Trudy (my preferred pencil authority) has some words to say about this mark,

"If you get the chance to look at a vintage Japanese pencil closely, you may notice a little squiggly symbol in a circle imprinted into the side of the pencil. These squiggly lines are the “JIS” (Japanese Industry Standard) mark found on all wood-cased pencils manufactured between 1946 and 2008. This signifies that the pencil meets the standards for industrial activities in Japan. The committee concerned with enforcing these standards was established one year after Japan’s defeat in World War II.
If you ever come across a pre-WWII Japanese pencil, it won’t have this symbol on it. And, pencils made after 2008 will display a different symbol design"
-Bob Trudy

I have some pre-WWII JPN pencils ...but they're 9H (yikes!).

Anyway ...Yoko!

You know, its funny you drew a character from a Nelvana produced television series cause tomorrow July 30th is the day Nelvana was founded back in 71, which means Nelvana is turning 50 years old.

I also think it's funny the last time I used a JPN pencil for ACO was when I drew Franklin (also a Nelvana character). :o

Yep, Nelvana did a Franklin tv show as well. Now granted Timothy and Franklin are based on books series first, but It was the animated series of Timothy that I knew of first before the books. Franklin I knew the books of, but never really fully watched it till it was on Qubo during the beginning of this year before the channel was unfortunately shut down in late February after Ion Television was bought by a different company that shut down some other affiliated channels of it to replace with their own line up of networks XP

I discovered Franklin when channel surfing. I hit on NickJr and there it was! I liked the fox character (creatively named 'Fox') and decided I wanted to see more. lol
I've since seen every episode of the series, all the specials/movies and even have the board game. :p

As for Timothy, I discovered that on YouTube ...as a cynical adult who just couldn't/didn't get into it. ^^

So you couldn't get into it, but Yoko definitely left an impression on you ^^

Yea, I guess I've had my moments with characters from stuff I don't like either. Caillou is a little turd, but his sister Rosie is pretty cute, same with Rosie from A Troll In Central Park, another cute baby character.

I'm not too fond of baby characters, albeit there are a few on my draw list. ^^

Timothy Goes To School is such a mellow and super wholesome cartoon. ^_^
And you drew Yoko so adorably. ^_^

I personally love Frank and Frank! X3
Frank 1: Me before you! Me first!
Frank 2: Me before you! Me first!
,,,
Both Franks: We'll both go first! Huhuhuhuhu!

 XD hahaha
They're such lovable goofy puppers!
