This was done back in the winter as a christmas gift from Atlas to Kae.
This was around the time I started to experiment more with "sub pixel" animations to get more motion to make stuff move less than 1 pixel per frame in certain areas. I've been gettin more comfortable with it and doing it a lot more now.
The way I did the tails, to cut on time and cost, was I animated one of them first, and then made 8 copies, and manually varied them and I felt like it would be visually pleasing to make a sort of "afterimage" like effect with the tails moving in a wave pattern.
Kae's character has a lot of intricate patterns and designs, especially around the face, that in pixel art, needs to be simplified, but I still did my best to imply them. Also had fun trying to make that subtle swish of the shark tail look 3D.
I did have to crunch hard on this one to make the holiday deadline when juggling with other projects, but Atlas tipped me generously for it. Thanks much!
I also made lil avatar versions of the of the two critters for them.
