As a child, Imboa had the misfortune of being the closest person to where an evil sorcerer died, making him the unwilling host of the sorcerer’s angry ghost. It would take several weeks before another sorcerer finally noticed and exorcised the ghost from him. The entire incident left him with an ability to see and hear spirits and ghosts that others couldn’t perceive, but because the sorcerer’s ghost often tormented him during his sleep, it also left him with a deep fear of dreams. Between the ghost incident and his lingering ability to perceive the supernatural, the other villagers became afraid of Imboa. Unwilling to cast him out in case he could turn the spirits against them in revenge, they nevertheless avoided him and left him to grow up a lonely teenager. During these long years, the only people who showed him any form of acceptance were the nomadic clan who frequently made camp near the village. Once he came of age, Imboa decided that he was tired of living as a pariah in his own home. Maybe he could hone his abilities to become a skilled exorcist. Maybe he could use that to earn enough fame to gain the respect of his own tribe. His only regret was that he had lost contact with the nomads. |
