I would have waited till she wasn’t crying and was on an upward trajectory rather than asking at her lowest point. You are right that his internet is probably solely to help her and not to get off but asking when he did could have easily backfired.

I agree. The page felt really weird with Howl not giving the respect that sort of situation needs. He either saw an opportunity and took it (manipulative) or he really REALLY did not read the room well in his effort of good intention (social hiccup?)

I think it was more a social hiccup than anything but then again he probably knows sam the best and she probably knows him the best so maybe he read the situation perfectly and was truly being selfless and wasn't doing this for himself. Either way I suspect we won't figure out how well this move worked out cause Leto is likely about to at best accidentally interrupt the moment and at worst do something horribly inappropriate like jerk off to them and ruin his friendship with the two.
