Star Trek Uniform Sketch - 2250s

Here's a relatively old sketch that's been moldering on my computer for a good while.  I'm posting it because I want to show of more of my stuff, but I haven't a whole lot of recent, finished stuff I can use.

Once upon a time, I noodled with the thought of drawing furry characters wearing various Federation Starfleet uniforms.  Not only would there be the main uniforms from each of the series and the movies, but also alternate timelines and realities (eg. "Yesterday's Enterprise" and "Mirror, Mirror").  Alas, this is the only picture I reached the point of being able to scan in before I quit out of frustration at my (then) lack of skills at cleanup and coloring as well as my lack of interest in committing to a series of pictures at the time.  I may revisit this concept in the future, when I get some ambition.

Pictured is a rabbit wearing a Starfleet uniform from the 2250s and early 2260s, as seen in TOS's two pilots.  She's holding a laser pistol and communicator from "The Cage" (AKA "The Menagerie").  Her badge is an extrapolation.  It's the Starfleet Command version seen only in the series itself, but not the pilots.  My assumption is that the badge existed before the series for the same reason, but was never shown because we never needed to see it.

Well, as I mentioned before, Amy is fond of Pike-era Star Trek (ie: "The Cage"), because of the less-travelled regions of space, and the seat-of-your-pants handling of technology... :)

I admit I wasn't thinking of Amy when I made this.  I just wanted to model Federation Starfleet uniforms on furry characters.  As I said above, I might revisit this concept later, perhaps using my Justin StinCoy persona.  Or not.  I really don't know.

I know you weren't thinking of Amy when you did this- It was just coincidental that it would happen to be Pike-era Starfleet, the same that Amy would envision herself as being a part of-- Possibly a mix of navigation, communications and science. :) I could easily see her at the navigation console, surprised at what she sees on the ship's sensors... :)

Personally, I like the TOS movies style of uniform, followed by the TNG movie/late DS9 style.  Era-wise, while the technology of the latter time is great, I think a lot of cynicism has crept in as time went on.  The post-TUC era has the best balance between TOS-style frontierism and TNG development.

When the STTNG crew went back in time to prevent Darvin from killing Capt.Kirk during the Trouble with Tribbles affair, by planting a bomb in the quadrotriticale shipment to Sherman's Planet, they had to adjust to technical differences between the 2 eras.

Star Trek is currently airing on channel 3 or 33 .

The Deep Space Nine crew actually.  TNG had gone off the air by then.  Both DS9 and Voyager had episodes that harked back to the Original Series crew (Voyager's being to the movie era rather than the series).

Of course, this uniform goes back further than that, back to the two pilots.  Part of the reason for the change to more colorful uniforms in TOS was to take advantage of a newfangled type of entertainment device: color television.
