My mother did a lot of it in the '80s. There's a whole plastic canvas Christmas village that attests to that, as well as plenty of ornaments and decorations and hordes of patterns.
I've also made a few flowers in plastic canvas as well. Currently, though, I'm learning how to crochet, and may hopefully have something animal-oriented (but not a stuffed animal) finished to post here.

With your colors, I'd imagine a portrait of your persona would look pretty. The only real tough part to making such a picture might be converting a picture into a pattern, and that conceivably shouldn't be that tough to do.
