I guess I missed a "doodle-a-day" already... dammit minecraft!
Anyway, here's a quick, dirty sketch to summarize what I did yesterday instead.
I started a new minecraft modpack at the start of the year, called "2021 test", and I think some updates to the modpack kind of borked the world generation a bit. I wasn't happy with the map anyway, everything was just too flat save for sporadically placed giant towering mountains and stuff that you couldn't see the top of.
SO, kind of fed up with it, I decided to restart the same modpack, and called the new world "2021 Redux".... and the world generation is so much nicer! It did not take long for me to find the above scene; a hill (not to big, not to small) with an "enchanted forest" on the left, and a "redwood forest" of the right, with a valley between them, carved out by a skystone meteor surrounded by lava (whish has busted through into a ravine; though with minecraft being minecraft, the lava doesn't actually cascade down into it... also, yes, there is a single surviving tree on top of the meteor lol), and overlooking fields of giant pumpkins.
TL:DR
I have never found a potential base location in any playthrough of minecraft that I liked this much. It is perfect. I think now I can stop aimlessly exploring the overworld, not knowing what I'm looking for, and actually build a cool wizard's tower here, in which to actually explore all the mods in this pack.
