34 years ago, I sent up a model rocket that was the size of the one the fox is holding, but it had the power of the one behind the calendar billboard. It was sent up 15 minutes before sunrise, and went so high you could see the sunlight lighting up the smoke trail...The smoke trail that high up from the ground looked as thin as a pencil line.
It went up so fast, we never heard the classic swoosh sound a rocket makes. We heard only a >pop< on the ground, and within a couple of seconds we noticed it was up high enough for the sun to shine on the smoke trail, despite the fact it was not yet sunrise on the ground...From that observation, I'm convinced that rocket exceeded the speed of sound on it's way up.
