The problem here as I see it is the influence of european languages. Using different pronouns for different subjects is for the most part only a conceit of the Roman-derived languages but somehow centuries ago it managed to sneak its way into English as it pertains to talking about people. This whole problem could be solved if we could boot it back out, restore the purity of English grammar, and just use "they" to refer to everyone and everything.
Anyone who's ever taken a course in French or Spanish or Italian should be able to tell you that having more than one pronoun in a language is far more trouble than it's worth.
