It's December of 1959, and in the little community of Duran, NM, Little 5-year-old Donna Coyote is showing her mother and siblings the new kite her father Al made for her. Believe it or not, he used the Christmas wrap the kite came in as the sail part...so the family had to unwrap the gifts very carefully without tearing the paper. And though gift wrap is marginally thin, it's strong against medium-to-high winds as well. Months later, the cubs would be able to go outside and fly their kites, along with their 2018 stepsibling Clarence. Fortunately they decided to fly the kites in an open field free of trees and power lines, so the kites wouldn't get caught up in them.
