It's not even that the jokes are old. The mindset creating the jokes is old. It's all mainstream propaganda narratives coupled with an explicit planting of a flag on one side of the culture war. They try to pretend that politics is as milquetoast as it was in the 90s, which is obviously false, and then double-down on their mistake by firmly establishing themselves on one side.
It was always a Democrat-supporting show, but it wasn't outright divisive. This new version is. I'm a few episodes in, and I've just been eye-rolling at the "orange man bad"/"sucking the Clintons' cocks" stuff, but most importantly I have not, as yet, noticed any balance. All the mean stuff is going in one direction, and it is really quite mean.
And to keep it relevant to this image, the change in the opening removing "Dot is cute" and replacing it with "Dot has wit" is frustrating not for the change itself, but for the obvious gender-politics rationale driving the change. It suggests very strongly that the show runners both 1.) Are ideologically possessed and 2.) Don't understand Dot's character.
"Dot is cute" was always a joke. Because she isn't. Dot is narcissistic, hypocritical, and annoying. "Dot is cute" is a satirical statement the show runners apparently don't understand or can't allow now.
Now, if they flip it around somehow to show that Dot is not witty, and is just full of shit, maybe that can work. Haven't seen it yet, though.

I enjoy this artwork. I have my political opinions but I wish everybody could just get along for a bit. I enjoyed the reboot even though it was a tiny bit preachy at times, i can put politics aside and enjoy it. If people from both sides could stop making over the top strawmen of the other sides it would be so much more tolerable. Not everyone you disagree with is a communist or a nazi. I was hoping a show like this could be a break or distraction from real life, and for the most part it was.

I didn't even check out the cartoon. Really after the past 20 years of seeing them take a giant dump on literally ALL my childhood faves, I expected shite and didn't even click. Now mind you, my complaints will likely different from other people's complaints, including yours but yeah, regardless of which side of the fence one is on, it's painfully obvious that the entertainment industry has gone full out political. to the point of completely overshadowing the content material. To the extent that the content material is in essence literally just packaging for propaganda. @_@; I really would like entertainment that has no investment in changing our minds and just wants to entertain. Yeah, Bernadette Peters does not appear to be working with the reboot. It is a shame, because Rita and Runt was my favorite segment. It was remakable how they could fit genuine tear-jerkers into a "totally insane-y" cartoon comedy. Most of the old segments got left out, though. There is no Slappy Squirrel, no Goodfeathers, no Buttons and Mindy, no Minerva Mink, but at least there is a lot of Pinky and the Brain. I imagine the problem is that they just could not get all of the old voice actors back together.

Well voice acting isn't any excuse, since even a half decent voice actor could do a passable job for those characters. Can't say I will miss Goodfeathers or Buttons and Mindy. Those were just watching toons get beat to shit for 5 minutes there. Slappy and skippy though will be sadly missed. Those were witty and cute. The random kid telling short stories was often funny too. Mime time, not so funny. Just more beat some to shit gag. there was definitely stuff they could have cut but they left out some of their heavy hitters for sure.

Bernadette Peters is a legitimate A-list vocslist, and Frank Welker is one of the best in the business. Getting those two back in the fold would probably break the budget. Peters even got special mentions in the credits back in the nineties.

Indie vocalists usually can't act, and the few who can act can't do so while singing. Vocalists who can act and sing at the same time are in rarified company. Further, when talking about a TV show with original material, simple technically accurate repitition with added virtuosity like what you see the YouTube crowd perform will not cut it. A vocalist working in such a medium has to create the drama himself in short order. The characterfulness that Peters was able to imbue Rita's songs with is the kind of thing that takes real talent to pull off, and that particular talent was the foundation of the Rita and Runt sketches.
I am totally with you on the reboot being rather pointless without the best of the old sketches. Pinky and the Brain can carry a show for a while, but even that routine gets stale, as the old Nickelodeon series showed. Even if they could not have gotten the old voice actors back together, they should have at least come up with some new ones to replace them. The whole reboot feels half-assed, like an unfinished product. Hulu did not want to pay enough to make it work and was likely just counting on a quick cash grab. God, TV sucks.

People shouts at people getting mad over a cartoon show when they themselves are getting worked up at what is nothing but a picture. This is the problem with viewers these days, the complete inability to understand a different opinion and a joke, it's the reason why a show like the original Simpsons would never fly these days.
