I'd disagree, personally. They'd be upset in the short term, but in the long term they would finally have some closure. They seem to be the only "family" she has left so, while it's definitely a subject to break gently, it just seems wrong not to let them know.

I just got around to reading this for the first time, and despite the incredible injustice upon Barbara, this comic has a surprisingly sweet and heartwarming conclusion. The hunter indeed only hunts for food, self-defence and justice, and discovers the real monsters are entitled citizens. That farmer especially... misogynistic to the point of murder... didn't even try to train his daughter to help on the farm.
Oh yes, I love the twist on Beauty and the Beast... i mean, the Beast was cursed for petty reasons, and the good hunter had a name very similar to Gaston!
