The weekend had finally come, it was the time to unwind from all of the week's stresses but most importantly it was time for adventure. It had become a regularly occurrence that three young friends would get together on these weekend days and explore the world around them, training themselves for what they wanted to do in the future when they were ready to leave home. Ion got out of bed bright and early like he normally would, dressing in his adventuring attire before leaving his family's estate, making sure not to forget his trusty sword that his father had got crafted for him. Defending yourself from critters was important for these adventures, as the boys looked at it as part of their training but most importantly these adventures were not all without danger, weapons were required for survival. Ion ran down the street with his lightning quick speed, he had recently discovered his adeptness for that element not too long ago and was still learning how to fully control it, applying small amounts of lightning to his legs Ion found that they would move a lot faster so that was a start. Getting to the city square Ion found Zephyr waiting there for him, it was kind of a surprise as Zephyr would usually be running late but a good surprise none the less. "Well well, you finally made it here first I see" Ion snarkly decreed to Zephyr, who was standing there in his normal adventure garb, carrying his trusty scythe that his sister had forged for him. "Well you are not the only one who is mastering a speedy ability, remember I am a Windfox" Zephyr retorted back as the two boys had a small laugh, "ok then are we ready to get going?" Ion asked after their little chuckle to which Zephyr nodded.
The two of them then set out for the town gate, each using their lightning of wind abilities to try and out race one another, a friendly little competition but one both were determined to win. Blowing past the gates, the two boys continued on to the tribal lands where their other friend Flint was waiting, prepared in his tribal hunting gear, bow and arrows at the ready with his painted marking signaling him as a true warrior. Flint tried to wave his friends down but they were still going at it fiercely in their little competition, not realizing Flint was standing in their way, the two boys ran full force into him, as they were both knocked down into a little ball of rolling fluff feeling as they had hit a wall. Flint though was still standing up, unfazed by his two friends barrowing into him, "ow that hurt" Zephyr could be heard saying as he was getting up and rubbing the side of his head, "you can say that again" Ion added as he was helped to his feet by a now standing Zephyr. "Were you two fighting again?" Flint asked his two friends in a somewhat angry tone though with a slight smirk on his face, Zephyr turned his head to try and not look Flint in the eyes as Ion stuttered for a moment before saying "well... we are just trying to practice with our new abilities... you can understand that right?" Flint's little smile then turned into a small frown as Ion remember that Flint had not yet discovered his own adaptive ability, Ion then walked over to him, placing a hand on Flint's shoulder before saying "don't worry, I am sure you will discover yours shortly, but remember you have us beat in tracking and natural fighting skills." This put the smile back on Flint's face as Ion pulled him into a small hug, with Zephyr coming out from the side to put his arms around them both. After some more seconds, the three of them released their embrace before Flint cheerfully asked the group "are we ready to head out?" with Ion and Zephyr answering in unison "you betcha!"
"So where do you want to head today?" Zephyr asked the group where both Ion and Flint went into thought, "well..." Ion began to answer, "we have not really explored the lands towards the coast, why don't we got there?" he continued with both Zephyr and Flint agreeing. The boys then set out towards the northeast, the only place around the city of Eios where the ocean connected to the surrounding lands, the valley where the city stood was fully surrounded by tall mountains, it was a great natural defense with this one waterway as the only easy access to the area. There was a small soldier's base near the waterway that Ion had been to a few times in the past when accompanying his father, who was the overseer of the country, Ion told his friends that it would be best to avoid that area but there was this lighthouse that was off in the distance he would always see and wanted to take a look around, so that would be their best target to start. They moved through the trees as there was a fair sized woodland between the valley and the coast, taking out small critters along the way that tried to attack, they were not overly hard but the boys were prepared. Sneaking past the small military base, the boys made it up to the lighthouse, they were in awe of the tall building that stood before them as Ion walked towards the small door on the side to see that is was unlocked. The boys entered, carfully looking around to see if anyone was inside and after seeing that there was no one, they ascended the stairs to the observation deck and looked out with wide eyes of the vast ocean that stood before them before walking around to the other side to see the beautiful view of the surrounding land around them. "It is quite breathtaking isn't it?" a voice could be heard behind them, as the three boys turned around in nerves clutching their weapons just in case, to see a more elderly wolf standing there, "you know you boys should not wandering around, it can be dangerous up here." "Were sorry, but this place is just so fascinating" Ion began to say before the old wolf raised his hand, "its ok, I would just prefer next time you come and see me first before heading up, this area is kind of a protected zone and any suspicious persons are to be reported to the overseer directly." the wolf continued as Ion became a bit frightened. "Don't worry though, I will not say anything to your father, you are Ivan's boy aren't you?" the wolf asked Ion who just quickly nodded, "well feel free to continue looking around and if you have any questions about anything out there just ask, you might find I am a world of knowledge."
The boys then spent the next couple of hours peering out at the landscapes around them, fully taking in the stories that the old wolf had to say about the certain parts of the surrounding area but every time they pointed out the barren area to the southeast the old wolf kept on changing the subject. After they had about enough time in the lighthouse, the boys decided it was time to continue on their adventure, they said goodbye to the old wolf who gave them a stern warning not to go near the barren land, that area was truly off limits. Walking back towards the forest, Zephyr commented that it was too bad they could not explore that way but Ion then replied "well why can't we?" 'But isn't it off limits?" Zephyr replied to which Ion answered back 'because one old wolf said it was, come one aren't you at least curious what is over there?" "I am up for it!" Flint called out cheerfully, "are you sure? should we really be going there? what if the wolf sees us heading that way?" Zephyr called back. "Well we will just head up the river and cross at a point where he can not see us" Flint answered back with Ion nodding in agreement, "well it is settled then, we are heading that way" Ion called out as he and Flint adventured ahead with Zephyr following behind a bit apprehensive. Going back through the woods, they followed the river bank looking for a way across, coming to an area where some river rock was protruding above the waterline, it was a fair distance from the lighthouse, away from the eye of that old wolf, this would be the best place to cross. "I'll go first" Flint said, being a tribal fennec, he was the best person to scout ahead with his skillful dexterity, though this sense of adventure was excitedly pushing him forward. Flint started crossing the rock with ease, excited as ever, getting half way across before motioning his friends to follow. Ion started crossing next, he too was excited about the adventure that awaited on the other side of the river, the rock were a bit slippery but he didn't really have any trouble stepping from one to another.
Getting halfway across himself, Ion looked back to see Zephyr still at the beginning, one foot on the first rock while the other was still on the riverbank. "Are... are you sure we should be doing this?" Zephyr called out with a bit of apprehensiveness in his voice, "this is really dangerous isn't it?" "Come on Zephyr you will be fine" Ion called back while waving his hand to signal Zephyr to continue forward, "it is not too difficult, I know you can do it!" Zephyr shaking a bit, was able to step himself onto the first rock as he nervously moved onto the next, "see you are doing fine!" Ion continued to yell out as he was finishing the crossing himself. Zephyr continued forward at his slower pace, being careful as he was quite nervous about crossing the river, Ion and Flint were already on the other side side waiting for him, he had to make it there. Coming to the end of the crossing, Zephyr breathed a sigh of relief as he stepped onto the final stone, but the slickness of the rock made his foot slip as he started tumbling forward, the fear instantly came back into his mind. Preparing himself to land hard in the water, Zephyr closed his eyes only to feel the soft embrace of arms surrounding him, opening his eyes to see that Ion had caught him from his face first fall, "don't worry I got you" Zephyr could hear Ion softly say as their eyes met. Getting back to his feet, Zephyr kind of looked down and to the side before just saying "sorry" to which Ion answered back "hey, hey it is ok, I am here for you when you fall, don't worry about it" before giving Zephyr a small peck on the cheek as he dropped the embrace. Zephyr turned a bit red as Flint let out a little giggle, as Ion walked a bit ahead before turning around, "so are we ready to get moving again?" he called out as Zephyr and Flint looked at each other before giving a nod in agreement, "ok then lets continue forward!"
The three boys continued on, the landscape here was strange, everything was barren with noting but rocks filling up the area, no sign of trees or other sorts of vegetation, but there were marks like the surrounding area was scorched at one point, or continued to be. They headed towards the mountain range in the distance, it was part of those mountain formations that surrounded Eios giving that natural defense, they wanted to see if there was anything there before heading back as even as adventurous the three of them were, they knew not to cross into the mountains, that would be too far from home. Getting about halfway to their desired destination, the winds around them started to pick up inexplicably as they looked up to see some shadows darkening the sky as they swirled around them. The boys huddled together in a triangle formation to defend themselves, as the shadows swirling around them started to take form before landing in their path to the mountain range like they were guarding some sort of great secrete. "Floof dragons..." the three boys said in unison and in awe of the creatures standing in front of them, Zephyr and Flint started to feel nervous but Ion was somewhat calm, like something inside of him was connecting to the dragons standing in their way. A few moments passed before a loud booming voice could be heard, "trespassers, you come on our land to take from us again..." one of them said before Ion called back out "no, we are doing nothing or the sort, we are only exploring around..." "Silence, I will have none of your lies, these are our hollowed grounds, you will pay for your deceit with your blood!" the dragon angrily called out drawing a katana from his side as he rushed the boys. Zephyr and Flint were frozen in fear but again Ion was calm and collected, keeping his left hand ready to draw his sword while he was preparing a surprise with his right, there was only the one dragon that was rushing them, he looked young and brash compared to the others, like this was his first time entering a battle, he looked too eager.
As Ion was readying for the clash, another booming voice could be heard from the dragons in the back, "Lazarus! Thats enough! Stand down!" she called out as the young male dragon stopped in his tracks and looked back angrily at what looked like to be his elder. "Why? They are trespassing on our grounds and need to be dealt with!" the dragon known as Lazarus called back out before getting a stern reply 'because that is not the way we do things and besides, take a look at the fox's hand" the elder called out. Lazarus turned his head back towards the three boys, two of them where still stuttering in fear of him but the boy that had tried to match him, in his right hand was glowing blue sparks. Lazarus's heart sank as the nerves started to hit him as the elder called out "I am sure you know what was now waiting for you if you continued your attack, lightning is quite lethal to us now isn't it?" Lazarus let out a small growl before sheathing his katana and starting to walk back towards the other dragons, as the elder one now approached the three boys, "I am sorry about this, that one is a new village defender and is still learning but what he said is right, you boys are trespassing on forbidden grounds, I am asking you to please leave without any fuss as I don't think you were doing anything mischievous" she said, "though before you do, I have one question to ask" she continued as she looked Ion in the eyes as if she was seeing something interesting. "With your blue lightning, would you have any connection with a fox called Isaac-Yggdrasil?" she asked, "he is my grandfather, he left just after I was born so I have never met him, but yes he is part of my family" Ion answered back. "I see, well then I am truly sorry about all of this, we are grateful for what you grandfather did for our clan during the war long ago and never want to attack anyone of his kin, but even so, you may be the son of the overseer but you do not have any official planned visit to our lands or any lets say special permissions granted to you to be here, so again I am asking you to please leave without any fuss, ok"
Ion nodded at the request of the dragon elder, as he was able to get Zephyr and Flint to compose themselves, as they took a bow in thanks before heading off back towards the river. The elder walked back towards her group where she met Lazarus sitting on the ground, as he looked up to her, he asked "are you sure about this? Just to let them go just like that?" The elder let out a small chuckle before answering "young one, you have much to learn, you have to think before you act, that boy is in the line of the overseers, a kin to the one who fought along side of us, to give us these lands, attacking and killing him would break a bond we hold dear and besides..." she went on as Lazarus's ears perked up, "there is more to that boy then just his family connection, when I looked into his eyes, I didn't not see the eyes of a fox but the eyes of one of our floof dragon younglings, similar to the ones I see in you" Lazarus looked confused at that statement, floof dragons were different from the other species that inhabited the world, how could a fox have the eyes of one? "Well anyways, there is something more pressing at the moment" the elder continued, "we need to work on that attitude of yours so get flapping back to the village, there are some things we need to do" she said as Lazarus gave off an annoyed grunt before the dragon group flew off towards the mountain range. Ion, Zephyr and Flint continued their walk back towards the river, their adventure took a turn they didn't expect but it was still exciting as ever. "So, your grandfather's name was Isaac?" Flint began to ask, "I have heard that name before..." "Well he was the first overseer and his name is well known to everyone" Ion answered back before Flint cut in again, "no, I also heard that name from something else but I can't quite put my finger on it, was that the name of... maybe not" "The name of who?" Ion asked eagerly, "nothing, never mind" Flint answered back as the three boys arrived back at the river crossing. "Oh no we have to do this again..." Zephyr complained as Ion placed a hand on his back, "don't worry, we will get you across, we will be here for you every step of the way" Ion called out with a smile as the three boys made it back across the treacherous crossing, eager to continue adventuring in the surrounding valley before the remaining daylight fades across the horizon.
