I'll take a guess based on the protagonists in the other stories: Chris is going to save her, but he's not interested in more for now. Nora won't give up and by some coincidence they end up in the bunk together. As in the other great stories, the whole thing is narrated in a tragicomic way.

Unrelated to much of the comments so far but... Anyone else that the amount of cash Sharkboy got for all that treasure seems.... cheap? Like it could be a currency thing where he is walking out with a fortune right now but it gust looks ... small considering the amount of expensive looking items he brought in.
