Gadget looked up at the monster Mephiles, this creature which had taken an almost mockingly twisted form of Shadow had defeated all the heroes until he was the only left standing. He lured it away, trying to buy the others time to recuperate, but it caught up to him all too quickly and he had not had the means to fight it and it quickly beat him down. "Look at you." Came his mocking tone. "You are the last wolf. Once I deal with you I shall return and finish the others." A cold blue flame ignited in his palm. "If only I had know that banishing the chaos emeralds to another dimension was all it took to cripple the earth's defenders I would have done it a long time ago. Not that such a trifle means anything to an eternal being such as I." Gadget winced as the demon prepared to launch his attack, but before he could follow through with it he was stuck by an energy blast. "What? Who dares!?" Mephiles turned his head just in time to meet the incoming fist of Infinite. The jackal looked furious. Before the knocked over demon could recover the jackal had summoned a phantom cube in one hand while the chaos emeralds floated above his other. "I dare! I may loathe this world, but there are still things in it I do not wish to see destroyed by a maniac like you. Begone!" Infinite crossed his arms and the cube and emeralds combined. Gadget had to shield his eyes from the fierce red light and debris from the incredibly intense explosion Infinite created by doing so. Once the light died down Infinite stood in front of a huge crater, Mephiles was no where to be seen and his dark aura had disappeared. Infinite turned and walked toward Gadget, but to his surprise he walked straight past him like he wasn't even there. "Hey...wait!" the wolf scrambled to his feet and reached out and grabbed the jackal's wrist. Infinite turned looking surprised, had he not noticed him at all? "Wait...I..." Gadget began seeing black dots in his vision, the concussion he had was much worse than he initially had thought. He blacked out before he could really talk to Infinite.
When he woke up again, he was not stranded in the wasteland like he had feared, but instead laying in a bed and if the bandages was any indication, had received treatment already. Looking to the side he noticed Infinite sitting right beside the bed slumbering. Had he been keeping guard over him? Gadget felt really grateful for that. He must also have been the one who brought him to safety then.
Just as the wolf was in his own thoughts Infinite woke from his nap and the two met each other's eyes. Gadget felt his heart-rate increase and felt the telltale signs of a blush creeping into his cheeks. Unbeknownst to the wolf Infinite shared a very similar experience.
Both looked away before their blush became far too embarrassingly apparent.
Tails was not really sure about leaving Gadget with Infinite, he was a bit of a bad apple as far as he knew. The fox carefully opened and peeked through the door and was quite surprised at what he saw. Gadget laid cuddled up to Infinite on the bed and the Jackal gently held the wolf. They both sported a faint blush.
With a smile Miles closed the door carefully again and walked away, no longer concerned about the jackal watching over Gadget. In fact he pitied anyone who might try to lay a hand on the wolf while Infinite was guarding him.
