It's either Princess Esther or Queen Agness, I don't know which, who is reminiscing, ""We fight our own battles. And now is no exception".

From the looks of Shomari's hoards in the rest of the story, it seems like it will take an outside kingdom with a far more powerful and well equipped military than what the fennecs have in order to rescue them from Shomari.
