no.6: Dr. Forrester (and TV's Frank) - Mystery Science Theater 3000
Thus marks the second character now who is a dude in a lab coat with frizzy hair and a big mustache.Well, let's just hope there's not another one like that and that they end up taking first place this year. Could you imagine? Haha...
In my years of doing these countdowns, I have drawn more fanart of this series than I ever thought I would... that is to say, that I ever though I would do so, period! Not that I'm complaining, MST3K sums up the vibe of campy B-movie horror better than most things and is a giant chunk of my childhood. Of course, when it comes to the Mads any one of them are totally valid for this and I did consider drawing all of them, but in the end I really wanted to settle on which one truly defined 'mad scientist' and that undoubtedly goes to one, Dr. Clayton Forrester. Looking back too, Dr. F epitomizes this trope so much that he's the character that made me love it in the first place! No, he may not have been the first crazy doctor I'd ever seen in media, but he was the one that drew me to it first. To quote MST3K, 'he's the clown that makes the dark side fun' and there's no way I would even think of doing this kind of countdown without him, or Frank for that matter. No, Frank isn't a scientist but I just feel you can't have one without the other with these two, and what's a mad scientist without his disposable lackey? I mean, really!
