I started thinking more about value in my pieces and I'm taking a class from schoolism on fundamentals, but I've rushed in trying to put in dramatic value shifts from the start. i forgot about the notion of building up the piece

I love how your art looks and I've been struggling to improve recently. I think this will really help. The way you do line weights in the sketch phase is really inspiring.

I really hope it will help :) I belive the thikness of lineart (if I understood you correct) doesn't matter if you are going to make lineless art, like my Caracal soldier. But while it is going to be art with lines I prefer lines to be thin.

On some drawings I've done, I used a different method where I start drawing parts, then add on other parts.
Being that I do my drawings digitally, and rarely mixed media, it's easy to move and position parts with copy and paste, and can change the size digitally until it has results I'm happy with.
I find that to be very informative. On some drawings I've done, I used a different method where I s
Well, honestly it is difficult to explain some things. Like, you can make tutorial how to ride a bicycle, but in fact you have to try it several times before your body and spine get it :)

Grasping the subject is yet another issue. But yeah, I remember the time I tried to teach a guy to become a professional musician in one e-mail. xD (I seriously believed it's that simple.) A very basic snippet took a whole page... Then I gave up, lol. (Audio stuff still seem super simple to me anyway, though. :P)
Edit, I love the precautious tail grab at the end. xD Not at all like we were about to step on it in stupid-frustration. xD

You are so brave to trying teach someone music through the internet via Emailing. I don't know considering music but it is impossible to teach art through emailing, because even throu real art classes it might be not easy thing. :) But attempt is great :) However Online classes might be good for music as well as art.

Or I was naive and crazy. xD Teaching the technical parts is possible - not so much the creative ones. I was a complete autodidact, always hyperfocused on learning music (using it as a broad term here). By the time I considered classes (after 10 years or so xD) I realized, they didn't teach anything new or interesting for me. By now (15 years total) I experiment and research.
But you know, the cool thing is, you can become a programmer, artist, musician, etc fully by your own. It's not like becoming say, a dentist, where mentoring is essential.
Gods, I ramble too much. >_< Sorry. But hopefully was a somewhat interesting read. :]
