This is the same kind of helicopter featured on the TV comedy series M.A.S.H.

Back in the 1950s and early 1960s, this Bell bubble cab helicopter was a very common helicopter used by TV stations.

Many air forces used them until quite recently.

That they did. And forestry services as well.

The chopper equivalent of a Jeep. I've seen plenty of WW2 ones still going strong.

They were very much an all purpose helicopter.

There were many of them around when I was a kid.

In fact, I've only one time in my lifetime been up in an an aircraft. And it was one of those helicopters.

Yeah, I wonder what it would be like trying to film this in one of these.

I never knew their cameras were made that way. I'm sure that is a very important piece of equipment for an areal new crew to have.

I'm sure the camera in the video I shared was made well after 1960-ish.

I was referring to the tornado coverage in the video.  I was 6 years old when this happened and I remember actually seeing the tornado from a distance.

Must have been scary.

That was not even my first close encounter with a tornado.  When I was 4 years old, there was another tornado that was even closer to where I was living at the time.

Thanks.

M.A.S.H. was pretty funny. A lot of the characters were a trip.

I saw that helicopter in the movie Cannonball Run II.  Some gangsters attached an electromagnet to it so they could kidnap the Shiekh during the race and hold him for ransom.  Unfortunately the helicopter's engine wasn't powerful enough to lift the car off the road.  Those Rolls Royces can be pretty heavy.  The helicopter eventually got knocked off the car's roof when it went through a tunnel.  mmmm...Maybe the magnet wasn't powerful enough either.

I never watched Cannon Ball Run. If I can pull it up, I'm going to look for that part.

That deal with the magnet reminds me of this old comedy silent movie.

I think Rickelina and Slugelina would have nice ride through the Argentinian Jungle in this one!

Seems like the ideal helicopter for it.
