Things had gotten too real for Murana. She was losing track of her purpose and why she was humoring Kit at all. She needed him to no longer care about her going after violent criminals in the way that she did and needed to get close enough to him for his empathy to take ahold so that he wouldn't have the heart to stop her. It worked well...a bit too well. She had fallen for him. However, there were so many obstacles in the way and him working for a government agency which would highlight her in a bad way if she got involved with him a bit too deeply wasn't going to be good.
So, she finally made the decision one night to end it. Leaving a small note on his hotel room dresser, she perched herself on the window after a final night of lovemaking. She didn't want to hurt Kit, but somehow, deep down, she knew he'd understand. She was driven and focused on her goals, just like he was. It was part of what attracted him to her. They were two sides to the same coin, just landing on different sides of the street in life. She would go on to kill other criminals in the way that she did, and he would turn a blind eye now because he understood. He wouldn't like it, but he would know not to push further lest he get in trouble with his superiors since she was not a high value target and it was illegal for him to become a vigilante himself to take matters into his own hands and go after her. It was, to put it simply, a stalemate between them.
And that is why she left. For her sake as well as his. But they still would have these memories together and the glimmer of a promise that their lives could have been different had they met in another time, another place. In her letter, Murana thanked Kit for giving her a vision of a future she wished she could have and to remember her fondly, if possible. With one final glance behind, she slipped out and into the night.
