Meet Meeks The Mouse, the all american naval cadet with the heart of gold. Being the smallest cadet on the USS Furtannia Meeks tries to make up for his diminutive stature by being a bit of an eager beaver and try-hard. Among his peers this usually just invites harmless heckling. More seriously however Meeks is often held up as a paragon of obedience and enthusiasm and used to shame the other cadets when they fail. This earns Meeks a certain degree of resentment even while his small size tends to make them view him like a little brother not old enough to handle real danger. Due to his extreme naivety, idealism, and amiable nature, Meeks is often taken advantage of. Despite this no amount of humilation seems to be able to deter Meeks from his love of naval life.

Hey, he really look cute, but also a tiny bit mischievous.
Now the question, is he old enough to handle real danger ?

As to whether he could handle real danger ... doubtful. He's sorta playing at being a soldier. As to how he would handle a real life or death situation, who knows. He's untested. I'd like to think he does possess some genuine bravery, but that will have to be explored in the actual story, I don't want to make a hardline about it here.

He's probably 18 ... and no. He's a scrawny little pipsqueak. He's one of the smallest crewmates besides someone like Feliz, but he gets a pass because he's a pilot (all that matters is their skill, and Feliz is one of the best). Meeks however is a try hard. He wants to be a real soldier and he's idealistic enough to think his size does not matter but only the valor of his heart (or some other sentimental shlock. At least that's how Petroshka would see it). In other words he's the polar opposite of Petroshka, he's extremely naive, idealistic, and optimistic whereas Petroshka is very street saavy, pragmatic and cynical. In other other words, Meeks is Petroshka's perfect foil.

He's not really "mischevious". He's a goody two shoes. He's a follow the regulations to a stupidly literal degree sort. You probably think he's mischevious because he's sticking his tongue out. The reason he's sticking his tongue out is just because ... I think it's cute :p

I think it's more indicative of the fact that he's sort of a naive dope. It's poking fun at him in a cutesy sorta way.

By the way I don't dislike Meeks. He's one of my favorite characters after Petroshka. He's adorable and just about the nicest guy you can imagine. It's just he's bought into the "soldiers life" a little too much ... so much so that even the other soldiers who despise Petroshka's cynicism also can't stand Meeks "follow to code to the tee" approach. Basically they are both too extreme. Most of them have a little sense that they are "doing something honorable" but they also know that it's a shit situation (being at war) any way you slice it. Meeks on the other hand seems to ... geniunely enjoy his plight. Like he'd rather be a sea at war being a soldier than anything else. You could give him the most demeaning demoralizing job and it would just be "yes sir" with that dopey smile on his face and his tongue sticking out ... lol. He'd be whistling while doing it and telling everyone to buck up because they are doing the greatest thing in the world ... you can imagine how he might be a drag when people are feeling down and rather be home courting a girl. Despite all this, they still like Meeks better than Petroshka. His surly unpleasant snarly attitude is the last thing they need when they already feel like shit. The last thing they need is to be reminded of how much things actually suck (to be fair Petroshka would complain no matter what situation you put him in. He's just hellbent on always being miserable). They'd like to at least pretend there is something redeeming in what they are doing but Petroshka won't even let them have that pretense.

Meeks is like a pathetic little brother who tries so hard to be "grown up". So the other crewmates have a certain "take him under their wing" approach to Meeks. They like him, but in a patronizing way. They still make fun of him, but "playfully" to his face rather than sneeringly behind his back. Meeks is a little too naive to realize this. He thinks they are all his friends. But the only one that truly looks out for him in the end is ... you guessed it ... Petroshka (even though he finds him the most annoying out of the whole crew).

Well enough of that. I'm going to end up giving the whole story away if I keep going.

Oh you can give me the whole story anytime XP

Yeah, it is indeed the tongue sticking out but also the general shape of the face. I mean, most of the time when a character is represented the face oriented down but still looking at you with a smile, it make me think that he have an idea behind his head. Do i make sens ? ^^
With that said, i agree, tongue sticking out is too damn cute. XD

But maybe mischievous wasn't the good word...recently the word sly have come too for something similar. What word do you use for someone that like playing tricks on people without being fully mean or a nuisance...you know what i mean ? ^^'

Also, thanks for the more complete description (even if you seemed quite close to tell me everything indeed) XD
